Boys' Swimming, S.P.S.L. Champs Once Again lg ulling, kicking, and breathing' all part of daily practice,' were essen- tial to the boys swimming team's ex- cellence. With the 29 swimmers and divers, the team members set high ex- pecta tions for themselves which helped the team's goals of beating their toughest opponent, Olympia, capturing the 10th consecutive SPSL title and placing as high as possible in the state meet. Coach Mike Stauffer said, they were Super swimmers. He said that because they set their own goals they made sacrifices so that they could achieve those goals. Coach Stauffer said that the tankers prioritized their values and therefore, were better prepared. This year the scoring system was altered. The new scoring system awarded the winner of a race heavily, but limited the number of swimmers on a team that could receive points in one race. Although it seemed to have a negative influence on the sport of swimming because the slower swim- mers could not gain points, Lakes' team was unaffected. Their cohesiveness helped them to be their best.

Coach Warren Logan said that despite the small number of returning let- termen, the turn out was very good. In addition to bodies, there was an abundance of talent, said the coach. The distance runners were of course the team 's strongest poin t. We had lots of talent, and we just needed to fit it all together. 1. And they're off! 2. jeff Brateng gives it his best shot. 3.
