Maria Paz assumes the ready position in anticipation Concentration is shown on Barb Hemmingefs of the ball. - Under the coaching of Miss Virginia Gilson, the Girlts Tennis Team captured second place in the South Puget Sound League. Although they lost two of the three non-league matches, one to Puyallup and one to Clover Park, the girls came back to beat Puyallup in their second encounter by a score of 3-2. They faced Clover Park in the last match of the season with both teams being undefeated in league competition. In a close and decisive match, Lakes bowed to Clover Park, 2-3. Kathy Hemion was chosen by her teammates as honorary captain, and Barb Hemminger was elected as outstanding player. Bob Pearson completes a chip shot with good form. This yearis Lancer putters had their most successful season in the history of the school. After losing the first match of the season, Lakes was undefeated, winning 17 matches in a row including two non-conference victories, thus claiming the South Puget Sound League Championship. At the end of the season, four players from each school in the SPSL competed in a tournament designed to recognize outstanding individual and team ability. Lakes won the Championship and in individual competition, Lancers Jim Hemphill, Bob Pearson, and Don Absher placed first, second, and third respectively. . Prospects for the next year are favorable too, since all team members except Don Absher and Ian Manclark will be returning. The JV Golf Team posted a 6-1 record and showed much improvement during the season.
