Washingtonis SenatorJackson speaks to the student body at a special assembly Charles King left the audience with a happy feeling of togetherness. Rick Kleiner displays a personal interest as he quizes Senatortlackson concerning the United Stateis foreign policy in the Middle East. i69-i70 ASSEMBLIES Throughout theeyear a variety of guests have spoken or performed at student body assemblies. Inmates from McNeil Island Penitentiary spoke to students about their life with drugs. They did not give prepared speeches, instead the inmates spoke directly and on a personal level. Another popular assembly featured the New Hope Singers, who sang contemporary music. A karate demonstration for boys and a fashion show for girls also proved of interest. In addition there were the annual Veterans and Law Day assemblies. In a special assembly, Washingtonis Senatorjackson took time from his duties to speak about ecology, a topic of concern to all. Perhaps the most entertaining program was the Charles King assembly. Through his voice and soulful songs, students became part of the program. He led both faculty members and the student body in song, while five students soloed with him. Lakes Choir members A1 Essex, Harley Oda, Lisa Polite, Donna Manuel, andJan Aldrich solo with Charles King.
