RIFLE TEAM SHOOTS BULL VARSITY TEAMv-Row 1: Gerald Hust, Gary Martindale, Gary Clifton, Row 2: Kathy Legacy, Gary Brewer, Dale Nolt, Bob Haanio, Monika Fritts GIRLSt TEAM: Kathy Legacy, Monika Fritts, Sheila Porterfield, Leslie Strom Led by Inspirational award-winner and team captain Gary Martindale, the Lakes Varsity Rifle Team captured 4th place in the Northwest Evergreen Junior Rifle League. Martindale led the team with an average of 363 out of a possible 400 points per match. For the first time, Coach Rich Sowers had a Reserve Team and a Girlst Team in addition to the usual Varsity squad. Both the Reserve and Girlst teams captured 2nd place in the league behind perpetual contender Wilson. The total points for the teams in the league are as follows. With coaching from Mr. Bob Lobdell, the Junior Varsity baseball team gained experience needed to play Varsity Baseball in the future. The weather hindered many games but running and sliding in the mud did not bother the reserve ballplayers. The team was composed mainly of sophomores with the energy and fire needed to makes a winning team. With those two factors, an experienced and skillful Varsity squad can be anticipated for next year. State The Lakes Boys, Tennis team started its season as the 1970 South Puget Sound League defending champions. The team consisted of three returning lettermen: Bill Fairlcy, Brian Jones, and Bob Secley. A nineteen match schedule gave the Lancer netmen their strongest test in non-league play. The new single round-robin League format required an outstanding performance each match with a premium on total team strength. Art Sundby and Leonard Moldenhauer charge the net.
