J.V. BASKETBALL-Knecling: Jim Walton, manager, Coach Bob Lobdell Standing: Rick Flattery, Andy Hale, Steve Nash, Dave Nedved, Pat Estes, Mark Rummig, Keith Gorder, Billjustice, Mike Lehman, Warren Slemp,jim Smitherman, Dave Wilson, Bob Hanft, Pat Magee. STANDOUTS MAKE J .V. This yearls team showed promising progress not only as a team, but with several individuals. David Wilson, Rich Flattery, and Andy Hale will add strength to the varsity team next year as guards. Mike Lehman, Marc Rumming, and Dave Nedved will bolster the front line, while Bill Justice was selected by his teammates as the most improved player on the team and will greatly aid the Lancers with his rebounding strength and hookshot. Keith Gorder and Jack Klumb were the two main standouts for the J.Vt team this year; Gorder was selected by the team as the Captain. Marc Rummig was chosen as ler. Hustle? Our season record was 5 wins against 13 defeats. The only bright spot in the season was beating Clover Park both times by scores of 66-60, and 55-50 in overtime. The coaching staff is anxious to see the basketball season begin next year and hopefully develop a winning tradition at Lakes. j.V. The Sophomore Basketball team gained much knowledge of teamwork and good sportsmanship. Under the capable coaching of Mr. Aldrich, the team started off by winning 3 of their first 4 games. Then, however, they tapered off to end up with a 5-13 season record. The leading scorer and rebounder was Rex Bond with 148 total points and an average of 10 rebounds per game. In the second game with Clover Park, the score was tied until a 30-foot jump shot was made by an opposing player in the last three seconds. This is just one example of the extremely competitive season the Sophomore team had. John Mayfield showed great promise at the end of the season and should prove an asset to the team next year.
