SAY IT WITH MUSIC MADRIGAL SINGERS - FRONT ROW: Stephanie Smith, Regina Koenig, Denise Johnson, Claucia Bucklew, Alane Mooney, Carol Gottas. ROW 2: Marise Long, Bob Campbell, John Stewart, Harley Oda, Janet Norberg. When you find a school subject that has something to offer every pupil in the school, a subject which appeals to young people so strongly that they willingly give up part of their lunch period or after school hours for extra rehearsals, you have discovered a subject that can expert a powerful influence for good in their lives. Such is the case of the Music Department at Lakes. During the past year, the music groups CChoir, Boys' Chorus, Girls' Chorus, Band, and Orchestraj have contributed much to the community. Concerts given at various seasons throughout the year, have proven that hard work and extra hours of practice bring outstanding results. As an extra-curricular activity, Swing Choir and Stage Band have performed for many community clubs. These two groups are specially selected from Choir and Band, respectively, by Mr. Hodgson and Nlr. Bantsari. The music groups say it with music and demonstrate their ability to express emotion through song. Diected by Mr. Bantsari the concert band has done an outstanding job this year. Not only does the band play at pep assemblies, and basketball games, but it also marches during football season. Their program also includes: performing at the Jr. Highs, at Western State Hospital, and at various Contests such as the Puget Sound League Band Contest. Three concerts have been performed at Lakes for the student body. These were the Fall, Winter, and Spring Concerts, which were enjoyed by all.
