To The Senior Class, Congratulations for having successfully completed another milestone ln your preparation for llfe. For some, this will mean the end of formal educationg for others, merely a launching platform for a more intensive specialized train- lng to meteoric success. The destiny of our nation lies with the youth of today. Our greatest competi- tor today has recognized that a nation's virility ls dependent u an educated 4 youth. It was Aristotle who said All who have meditated in tllgnart of govem- lng mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends upon the ed- ucation of youth. The responsibility of accepting this challenge lies with each of you. Our free- dom can only be preserved if each of you is wllllng to participate in the making of decisions which ma shape the future of our nation and to contribute toward a way of life which upholds the rights and privileges of the lndivldual . Our faith in your ability to meet this challenge is unbounded. d Walter Panas 3. .,, Row 1: Dr. Ralph Colvtn, Walter Panas, Clifford Rlchards, Thomas Rockett, Presxdent. During this era they were referred to as helots. Today, as in all ages, we still have our workers doing their iobs to make conditions eas- ier for us, the students. These helots, so to speak, consist of our custodians, secretaries, and cafeteria per- sonnel. This staff takes good care of all our needs that we sometimes take for granted. Without these needed iobs performed, a Golden Age could easily decline. A special smile of gratitude is given to them for helping us promote our Golden Era. :nv 1 .4 ,-7 i Barbara Hammer, Secretary to Mr. Rundle, Madeline Francesch, Ac countant-clerk. The setting was outdone only by the queen, Joan Flanders. Tuck- ing our senior cards in our pockets and adjusting our senior hats on our heads, we looked at the tickets for our Washington Trip. What memories of thatl We heartily thank Mr. Brech for making our trip a success. Now as commencement approaches, the memories of our years ln Lakeland make everlast ing impressions in our minds. With something to remember and something to hope for, we can approach our future with confidence and ease. So as our Golden Age at Lakeland comes to an end the Class of i958 leave hearts within its walls as we enter the Golden Age of Life. We would like to thank our class advisors, Mrs. Kennedy, Mr. Lockhart, and Mr. Engel- son, for without their help we would not have accomplished what we did throughout our high school years. We would also like to give a special thank you to Mrs. Salustri for her help in planning the Junior Prom and so many other things. With the experiences obtained at Lake land, and the helping hand of God, the Class of i958 will see success in its future and will not disappoint its advlsors. The Conservation Club, under the supervision of Mr. Brech, realizes the increas- ing need of studying the great mysteries of nature, especially since our suburban areas are growing. As in the days of Greece, the members specialize in preparing lectures and going on field trips. They are in the process of writing a pamphlet to be distributed to the publlc about the Nature Park of Croton Point. The whole purpose of the Washington Club ls to give the Seniors of Lakeland an opportunity to visit the capital of their nation along with such great buildings as the Pentagon and of course, the Capitol itself, which is of classic design. Also they can observe, during their four day guided tour, other hlstorlc places of interest as Mount Vernon, Annapolis and Gettysburg. The Olympus of Lakeland opened its portals and engulfed the spirit of the men in Lakeland's Varsity Club. The honor and high standing which this club has obtained has been and will continue to be a great asset to our Golden Age. Membership to the club is open to all Lakeland High School sportsmen who have earned a varsity letter. Members of the club strive to maintain order at sports functions and to set an example for the students. Each year the Varsity Club sponsors a show and the proceeds go toward the purchase of school needs. The club also sponsors a picnic in the spring of each year. The club will long remain a necessary part of our Golden Age. 68 A X N! ..anv?
