A road to the right ran through a wood And the left road led to the faroff hills. The wood was dense and cool and lovely, And there came music from within: Birds that cried the beauty of their greenland home, Ana oo old brook booonoo somewhere about love. The road leading left climbed up hills And down through rocky, sun-baked land That people left to its own, all alone, To lie untilled. My friend asked which road should we take And I said the left-running road and he disagreed. But why? There's nothing there, said he. There are rocks there and steep hills, I replied. The woods are 'restful dnd shady, he argued. Yes, I admit they induce sleep and hide the sun, I said But the left country is restless and sun-roasted 7 I MM And tough to handle. 0,41 0' 7 . pa . We disagreed and so said goodbye, 0 ' . T ' ' And he went to the right and I to the left, ' And that was the last time.we met. G!! This year the G.O. held several successful projects including the Hun- garian Relief Drive, the Student Handbook, and the G.O. cards. The Junior High G.O. had one main plan for the year 1957. That plan, as everyone knows, has played a big part in Lakeland's enjoyment of games and dances. With the mone from our treasury we have replaced the oild soda machine with a big brand-new Coca-Cola machine. At the beginning of the school year we took care of the annual Curtiss Magazine drive. Some lucky students won top prizes, and the G.O. profited greatly. In May we will have a terrific mov- T ie dance fWe hopell That will be sponsored . . The public relations work at the front desk is most popular and useful, with book selection, displays, and binding following. Each member is also re- sponsible for the appearance and arrangement ofa certain section of the library. This work is performed during the lunch and study peri- ods. However, much is left to individual in- itiative, the students may do as little or as much as they are inclined. We had duel meets with Hendrick Hudson and Carmel, and a tournament with Carmel, Hen- drick Hudson, John Jay, and Lakeland. We placed third in the tournament. cross country This year the Cross Country Team has been a small but good one. Bill Jewell placed 'I3th in a field of 125 at Tarrytown. Ronald Young Elwyn Smith, and John Trace did so well that if another man had walked around the track, they would have placed Sth out of 25 teams. This points out their worst problem--lack of men . At another meet here at Lakeland they won over St. Mary's, placing Ist, 2nd, 3rd, and the 4th man 6th. This was the first meet they won.
