llntfgeirestlzs aut Heart Our secretaries have many extra duties that are necessary in running the school smoothly. Typing reports, filling out forms, checking schedules, and handling absentees are only a few. Mrs. Nash's work varies from sending out college transcripts to giving demerits, while Mrs. Sauls concentrates on insurance and per- manent records. Mr. Zipprer's secretary, Mrs. Andrevvs, has the tremendous task of schedul- ing our T700 students. All the secretaries Work- ing together make up an important part ot our school. Sophomores soon learn the regulations of LHS, and here Louis Stern receives personal instruction from Mr. Zipprer and Mr. Lotgren. The secretaries earn that rare and welcome coffee break. This is the view ot the secretaries, Mrs. Vir- ginia Nash, Mrs. LaVerne Andrews, and Mrs. Arlene Sauls, most often seen by the students.

English Qourses loimtfanitm what The English Department, boast- ing fourteen teachers, is the largest faculty group on campus. Because four years of English are required, every'student is influenced by these teachers. A special responsibility lies on them, then, fo develop commun- ications skills through an effective program . . . to motivate, to stimu- late, to explain, to assign, to evalu- ate. Miss Nell Thrift, Mrs. Sandra Johnson, Miss Shirley Chadwick, and Mrs. Linda Tilton earn the Glamour Award for the English Department. English teachers compare the results of their students' efforts. They are Mrs. Nelle Choate, Mrs. Virginia Bent- ley, Mrs. Edna Lee, and Miss Virginia Davis. Courses, in addition to the tradi- tionally required, include Journal- ism l and ll, Bible Literature, speech, and business English. A new project is the operation of a paperback bookstore for the convenience of the students. The Tam O' Shanter, prize-winning literary magazine, is also sponsored by this group.
