NELLIE ARNETT has a highly varied background of educational experience. Positions of elementary teacher. iunior high teacher. even principal loom in her past. This year ninth grade pu- pils are finding Civics a profitable and enjoyable study under her fine guidance, MR. JACK BARKER, teaching health education, is a newcomer to the L.H.S. faculty. One of our first-rate coaches, he was athletic director at Lebanon, Virginia, before making Lakeland his home. JESSIE MAY CHAMBERS has to be versatile to handle her teaching assignment-typewriting. consumer education and eighth grade math. Although this is her first year of teaching at L.H.S.. she speaks enthusiastically of the friendliness and spirit of cooperation among the students. MISS EVELYN COVINGTON names Odessa, Texas, as her birthplace and is as proud of the fact as are all Texans. She teaches problems and current history. An active cluhwoman. Miss Cov- ington has little spare time to devote to raising cacti. her hobby. or to haseball. her favorite sport las an observer, not a participantj. Latin and MISS CATHERINE CRAIG are synonymous at L.H.S. Because of her fine work in making Latin fascinating and attractive, Lakeland has the largest Latin department in the state. A native of Alabama. Miss Craig is a graduate of Wfesleyan at Macon, Georgia. She dislikes the confusion in L.H.S. and hopes for serenity and more storage space in the new building. N0 one has yet determined how such a small person as MISS VIRGINIA DAVIS can contain so much energy. ability and know-how in general. Miss Davis. who teaches journalism. once was .id- visor to all three of our fine publications. Now she confines her publishing activities to the Bag- pipe and no sound is as familiar to her classes as, Remember, today is the deadline? MR. JOHN DEEDRICK names basketball as his favorite sport as well he might, for he was a top' ranking varsity player during his college career. This is his third year at L.H.S. teaching physical education. and boys who ask every day if they are going to dress out are his pet peeve. The main thing he dislikes about L.H.S. is the lack of respect which boys and girls have for the teachers and for school property. When asked what she would like to see in the new building. MRS. MERVYN DICKINSON, with characteristic humor, said, Mel Students of General Math 2 know that this is the sort of thing that they can expect from their capable and witty teacher. Mrs. Dickinson is a native Floridian and holds a B.S. degree from Florida Southern College.
