Even though they got started a little late, they came through the season with much vigor and certainly were an element in the progression of our teams. Their job is one that requires much practice as every team needs all the support available, Performing many new arrangements and introducing many new yells, the cheer leaders drew the support of the crowds and thus aided greatly in pushing Lakeland on to victory. This game though cost the services of the only veteran quarter and kicker for the following game against the Hillsborough Big Red Terriers in Tampa. A Terrier drive stalled at the goal line, the Lakeland center intercepting and returning a pass out of danger. A Dreadnaught march back culminated in a flat run and the victory score of 6-0. This game cost the services of the veteran center against the largest opponent of the season, Clearwater's Juggernauts. By comparison, the Dread- naughts look tiny and juvenile, but they repulsed the big invader for three quarters, swapping smashes and thrusts mainly in Clearwater territory. The odds of weight, reserve and age told in the last quarter when two near seventy-yard Tornado runs defeated the Dreadnaughts 12-0. Against a strong Sarasota team, the Dreadnaughts had to stage a second aejiff 09 half comeback to gain a 6-6 tie. In Orlando's Tigers, a superior opponent in every department was met and the worst defeat of the season resulted, 19-0. The closing scheduled game with Bartow, South Florida Champs, was a ding-dong first half offensive game, each team carrying the ball to a score on its posses- sion. Each team's offensive star was removed and the last half was defensive and scoreless, the Yellow Jackets 13-9 victors over a tired Dreadnaught squad. The Salvation Army-Alumni game enabled the Dreadnaughts to close the season with a 20-6 victory. Results: 5 wins, 1 tie, 6 defeats. By the win and loss column the season was not so impressive, but when the small size and greenness, and the closeness of scores of the defeats are balanced against the weight and experienced calibre of the opposition, the brand of ball was much more impressive and the record better than reasonable expectations. They were short on weight and experience but long on courage and fight. FOOTBALL RESULTS Dreadnaughts 7-Lake Wales . . Dreadnaughts 13-Leesburg . . . BAGPIPE STAFF WRITERS' CLUB WITH the thought in mind that many men do not enjoy the talents necessary for becoming orators, craftsmen, musicians, athletes, or any other of the so recognized greater talents, the Writers' Club was founded in the year nineteen hundred thirty-five, to allow those whose only means of self-expression was through the medium of the pen to express themselves to the world at large and compare those writings and such notes as they might have with their fellow contemporaries. Those students participating found many means of outlets for their poems, short stories and essays. Many of their better works appeared in our school newspaper. Those far-sighted students whose talents led them in the direction of journalism, published the first edition of the now popular Bagjlijze, in the year nineteen hundred thirty-seven. Much of the inspiration, guidance, and untiring leadership fostered in these students has been that offered by their advisers, Miss Jenkins, Mrs. Bryant and Miss Gracy, the present Advisory Committee. Another aim is to interest more people in the Spanish language, thus increasing the membership. There are two branches of the League-the adult and the student branch.
