That formal education keep pace with these developments is becoming more essential than ever. As you, the class of 1966 - 67, enter the teaching profession, you will be a part of a determined effort to bring the education- al programme into line with the needs of a rapidly changing, modern society. One of the most exciting challenges which teachers must face is the need to adapt themselves to quite dramatic re- visions in curricula and in general teaching procedures. Ihope, most earnestly, that you will be willing and, indeed, anxious to participate fully in new developments in educa- tion. By doing so, you will help to prepare children for life in the world in which they must live. I wish you success and happiness in your careers. Na-nf .x-,M NJ.. f- 1' ' D. H, Bony DEA OF WOME I will not follow where the path may lead, but I will go where there is no path, and I will leave a trail. dw- T? Muriel Strode If We ask ourselves what we positively know of the future, about all we can ans- wer with certainty is that it will not be like the present. For within the time of living man we have gone from the age of the horse and buggy to that of the satellite in space. What lies ahead we cannot see, S but surely progress will continue, and the difference will be great. These conditions dictate that the winds 'of change must blow constantly through the field of education. This is not a con- demnation of the traditional schools of yesterday, for they have laid the foundation of knowledge and thought through which the phenomenal strides of the past century have been brought about. The philosphy no longer holds, however, that the school of today must prepare the child for the world of tomorrow. Such a concept demands that the teacher maintain an active, inquiring, and flexible mind. These attributes you must nurture both in yourself and in your pupils if you are to make a contributionwhichis at all worth while. Better still, however, carry through all your profes- sional efforts a true spirit of adventure and discovery. Combine a knowledge of the past with a vision of the future, so you can keep what is tried and true, discard that which is out of tune with the times, and adopt new concepts and approaches. Leaders are needed to blaze new trails for the future. May your spirit of youth put you in the vanguard, and success accompany you in all your endeavours. M. PRlNClPAL'S MESSAGE If you are content with the best you have done, you will never do the best you can do. Martin Vanbee Your graduation into the teaching profession should bring you a deep sense of accomplishment. The step you are taking marks the successful completion of a major level of your education, and starts you out upon the career of your choice. May your feeling, however, not be one of complete satisfaction, for, in spite of your efforts, you have developed only a small part of your potential as an individual and as a teacher. To say this is not a criticism of you, rather it holds for- th the prospect of a bright future. Since, as is common with Man, you are holding in reserve a capacity for doing far greater things than you have yet done. Do not be content, then, with what is already accomplish- ed, determine, rather, to set higher demands upon yourself in the hope of coming closer to the best you can do. Your efforts will bring their own reward. Man finds joy in what he does well - never in what is poorly done, and your very happiness will lead you on to new levels of achievement. Good fortune must be the lot of the pupil whose teacher has discov- ered pleasure in successful work. He will find himself in an atmosphere that is conducive to learning, but, more important, he may catch the spirit that lies behind the teaching. May your pupils be blessed with a teacher who has found genuine heights of happiness in his chosen career. The best wishes of the staff will be with you. W. West
