MINISTER OF EDUCATION it f i f '1'-. fkfgid ONTARIO It is a pleasure for me, as Minister of Education, to welcome to the teaching profession the 1967 graduates of the Lakehead Teachers' College. You are entering service in the schools of Ontario in an era of great change in thought and practice. The years ahead will, I am sure, provide new, interesting and rewarding avenues for your contrib- ution to education. In but a few months you will take charge of your own classroom. You have been well prepared for the immediate tasks which face you, and you will grow quickly in experience and ability. It is my hope that you will also grow intellectually as you search for improvement in your teaching skills and take advantage of the many courses for teachers offered by the Department of Education and the Universities of Ontario. The world of the late nineteen sixties and the early nineteen seventies will demand much of its youth. Your responsibilities as a teacher are increasingly more exacting and more demanding than they were for the teacher of a generation ago. You carry with you into your teaching positions the confidence and the best wishes ofthe staff of your College and the Department of Ed- ucation. May your days as a teacher find you dedicated and enthusiastic as you prepare our children for their future roles as citizens of our great land! Ma Minister of Education.

PRlNClPAL'S MESSAGE If you are content with the best you have done, you will never do the best you can do. Martin Vanbee Your graduation into the teaching profession should bring you a deep sense of accomplishment. The step you are taking marks the successful completion of a major level of your education, and starts you out upon the career of your choice. May your feeling, however, not be one of complete satisfaction, for, in spite of your efforts, you have developed only a small part of your potential as an individual and as a teacher. To say this is not a criticism of you, rather it holds for- th the prospect of a bright future. Since, as is common with Man, you are holding in reserve a capacity for doing far greater things than you have yet done. Do not be content, then, with what is already accomplish- ed, determine, rather, to set higher demands upon yourself in the hope of coming closer to the best you can do. Your efforts will bring their own reward. Man finds joy in what he does well - never in what is poorly done, and your very happiness will lead you on to new levels of achievement. Good fortune must be the lot of the pupil whose teacher has discov- ered pleasure in successful work. He will find himself in an atmosphere that is conducive to learning, but, more important, he may catch the spirit that lies behind the teaching. May your pupils be blessed with a teacher who has found genuine heights of happiness in his chosen career. The best wishes of the staff will be with you. W. West
