Con- sequently, in this time of breath-taking technological change and social upheaval, Society needs the leadership of dedicated teachers whose minds are idealistic but whose feet are realistic. Science has been in the forefront of our lives, carrying us through a rapid transition from the horse and buggy to satellites in space. These sudden developments have provided the world with the tools for great good or tremendous evil. The problem created is whether we shall use these powerful forces for self-destruction or for the betterment of mankind. Man, not Science, is actually responsible for the problem, and he alone can provide the answer. The solution will be found not in further scientific discoveries, but in the development and communi- cation of those ideas and ideals which will lead every person to treat his neighbour as brother, regard- less of race or creed. Such an enlightened mass decision is clearly impossible without wide-spread individual acceptance. The movement can start in your classroom. True, as a teacher you must enlighten and discipline the minds of your pupils as you provide them with a rich fund of knowledge. However, the survival of the world will depend not upon knowledge alone, but upon the ability of large numbers of people to make realistic choices in the light of adequate information. Hence, your principle task in the interests of world society is to lead your students to think clearly, to analyse logically, to judge fairly, and to decide intelligently.
