'Qs VICE-PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE This stage of your teaching career is inevitably a time of mixed feelings. You may ask yourself such questions as, How much progress have l made this year in ' the direction of my goa1sT ' and What new measures may be called for in the year ahead? X and death. F. W. l-IYDER Growth is a basic principle of Nature. Civilizations, social institutions, and the individuals comprising them, are all subject to the principle of growth. When growth stops in a plant, a mind, or a civilization, the results are the same: decay Growth demands changeg growth demands experimentation and discovery. The whole forward thrust of society is brought about through experimentation and adap- tation of new ideas, coupled with the recognition of, and the reliance on those traditions, institutions, or practices of the past that have proven worthy, indispen- sible, or immutable. There is emerging in every growing person a responsible entity which is capable of initiating action and having an effect upon the larger encompassing life process. May your part in this life process be worthy, effective, and satisfying. 1965 DEA OE WOME MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN OF WOMEN When the method and discipline of knowledge are added to talent, the result is usually altogether outstanding. Cicero ln choosing your career, you must have been influenced by a feeling that God had given you, in some measure, a natural talent for teaching. The year's work at the College has provided rich opportunity for you to explore and develop that capacity. Bear in mind always that your graduation certifies not that you have become the perfect teacher, but that with your aptitude and training, you have shown rich promise. To show promise is encouragingg not to fulfil that promise would be tragic. Look then upon your graduation, not as a mark of something completed, but as a mark of something begun. Simply to use your talent without enriching it is stagnation. Set yourself for the years ahead a standard of excellence in knowledge and artistry. In the pursuit of that excellence you may never reach perfection, but you will succeed in wedding your natural talent to the true craftsmanship that distinguishes the artisan from the technician. 1965 M.
