A Message from the Chairman Engineering students and practising engineers, have urgently addressed themselves to solutions of man ' s problems -- current and future. These problems include the social and oecological ( animal and vegetable economy) aspects as well as responsibility for the physical environment. These problems can be solved by technology both new and applied. Engineering has always been on the brink of technological progress. There is no doubt that it will continue to be. This implies leadership which carries with it, risk and responsibil- ity. The risk of seemingly insurmountable obstacles which means the retracing of one ' s steps to start again and again. Leadership also carries with it the responsibility of seeing to it that all are served. It is apparent that engineering decisions on its design, R. D. have led to relatively few impasses. The results have been good and are reflected in the standard of living in the country. The entreprennurial courage which engineering is able to offer free enterprise may well establish the funding required to support future social programs. The vitality of engineering technology in the next 25 years, its ability to take risks and live with the results, and its continuous struggle with the complex problems of modern society may very well determine homo sapien ' s survival as a species.
