The end of one of the many paths we will travel throughout our life- times. The climax of three wonderful years spent in a school of which we are extremely proud. Our memories of this year will stay with us forever, no matter where we go or what we do. The anxiety . . . waiting to hear the results of the pep jug contest. The yelling at our football games. The anticipation on Homecoming night . . . wondering who the queen will be. Weary eyes after many nights of late Blackout prac- tices. The Senior Ball . . . our last high school formal. Finally .... Commencement and our Senior Party. We have come to the end of one of the many paths we will be traveling. We have graduated from Lake Washington High School. The purpose of our Associated Student Body is to encourage self government, to promote a friendly relationship between students, to direct activities, and to initiate action to the general advantage. Work- ing busily to accomplish such feats is the Student Council. This year, they met each Wednesday to make decisions on such things as the possibility of an exchange student, the changing of the school colors, and the pattern of a new seal. Members of the student council include representation from each council class. Heading this ambitious group are the A.S.B. officers. Standing committees of the Student Association are the Publicity Committee, the Assembly Planning Board, and the Student Traffic Court. The publicity committee, headed this year by Elaine Collins, sees that the local newspapers have up-to-date stories on school events. The Assembly Planning Board, headed by the A.S.B. vice-president, plans and presents all assemblies except the pep assemblies, which are left to the yell squad. The student traffic court, headed this year by Judge Bob Shular and advised by Mr. Mock, handles student traffic tickets which are referred to them by the Juvenile Traffic Court. They also make an effort to improve the driving of every student. All students value their part in the government of our school, and appreciate the work which it accom- plishes under Mr. Shovlin's direction. 41 Cui' ROW ONE: L. Brashears, F. Springsteel, R. The theme, as the name implies, was western. Its purpose was to welcome the new sophomore girls, and welcome them we did. Each girl was assigned a big sister to help her throughout the year. Then, the cabinet members were introduced, after which cupcakes, decorated with multicolored lariats, and coke were served. Girls' Club sponsors a Tolo, a dance which this year was held on February 22. Because the date was so early, the girls wore semi-formal dresses instead of the usual cottons. Other Girls' Club activities included serving refreshments at the adult education meetings, Cook Sandy Lindquist promoting friendliness, backing regulation day, putting out a charm booklet, and sponsoring girls of the month. The night was cold and clear, and excitement ran high as the Kangaroos de- feated the Mt. Si Wildcats by a score of 27-0. During the half time, the drill team marched snappily, and beautiful Sandy Shepard was crowned Queen of the Evening. Attending her were Susie Rainwater, Pat McCormick, Phebe Carlson, and Connie Loesby, princesses. First prize was awarded to the junior class for its beautiful gilded float in the parade which pre- ceded the game. A dance honoring the alumni followed. The gym was gaily decorated with balloons, paper chrysanthemums, and names of the football players. This was a memorable night for all the school. Through the line!! This slogan was typical during the weeks of anticipa- tion before the Junior Prom. And it was weeks! After several cancellations because of flu, a beautiful dance was finally produced. The dance proved worthy of every expectation, with its gay poodle decorations, excellent music, and deli- cious refreshments. Intermission found our own school talent enter- taining us. Randy Rydeen played his guitar, and then accompanied Jennie Fischer while she sang. The dance was very successful, and, as the last couples departed, a backward glance would have revealed a deserted pink doghouse, several leftover favors, and two empty chairs which were occupied earlier in the evening by Bob Shular and Norma Parish, Duke and Duchess of the Prom. All these were symbols of a wonderful dance, The Pink Poodle Prom. PM fd THE THRONE AWAITS PINK POODLE: MARK OF DISTINCTION Bob Shulur ond Norma Parish Duke and Duchess MILITARY BALL ROYALTY: B. The Kangaroos were rated as one of the best teams in the state, and were one of the best teams in the state, and were one of the few undefeated and untied Class A teams in the state. This year's team was'considered by many to be the best ever to play for Lake Washington. lt started its season at Edmonds where it tamed the Tigers 35-O. The Spartans of Shoreline were the next to fall, 19-0. The season saw the defeat of previously undefeated Bothell, 20-0, and the overwhelming win over Federal Way, 47-0. The last game of the season was played on a foggy Friday night against Bellevue, and that time the Hoppers rolled out a 40-0 win. The end of the season showed a total of 273 points scored by the Hoppers, while their opponents had run up only 20. The total yardage gained was over a mile and a half. After only a mediocre start in the non-league tilts, the Hoppers opened their league schedule against the Bulldogs of Foster. The Kangs were as much as eight points down at one time in the third quarter, but came through with a 53-45 victory. The best game for the Hoppers was the victory over highly rated Mercer Island. The Juniors and Sophomores will follow the same path again, but we Seniors will step onto the path that lies beyond the halls of L.W.H.S. No matter how far our steps take us, we will never forget the memories of our high school days .... games, fighting Kangaroos, dances, classes, tests, rush assignments, friends, lockers that -vfam, deadlines to meet, errands to run, pep assemblies, pep jug, parking lot craters .... a never-ending stream of happy thoughts. Now, com- mencement draws near and we must say, Good-bye, L.W.H.S., we'll never forget you, as we leave to discover .... Where the pathway leads.
