MISS GUNNING RECALLS HIGHLIGHTS OF OLD LWHS Into The New... Climaxing a hectic four months of double-shifting. anticipation and excite- ment penetrated the atmosphere of moving day. An assembly was held in the former high school that eventful morning of .Ianuary 3, 1950. After farewells had been said to the building that had served so faithfully. and it had been oflicially turned over to the junior high, senior high students boarded the buses that transported them to their new home on the hill. After the arrival of the student body, another short assembly was held out- side the main entrance of the new building. A color guard raised the flag for the first time. and then the keys WHAT SO PROUDLY WE HAIL were given to Mr. Salyer who opened the doors to admit the throng. The halls were suddenly transformed from silent. unused corridors to thoroughfares buz- zing with curious pupils opening lock- ers, inspecting rooms and becoming acquainted with the school. It was hard to believe, but the dream of a new Lake Washington High School was finally a reality.
