The future, our tomorrow, has already become our today. Among our precious jewels is found the pearl which symbolizes scholar- ship. Solving the mystery of this stone gives a firm and lasting founda- tion to our lives as we build for tomorrow Only the deep violet of the amethyst is the proper color with which to paint a picture of the friendship of fellow students and teachers. No ray is quite so clear as the true cut diamond of leadership and service. This worthy ornament is to be found in the various school organizations. For the enthusiasm displayed at various athletic events, the topaz shines in energetic brightness. Rarest of stones, the emerald alone could sym- bolize the special combination of scholarship, friendship, leadership and sportsmanship. This stone is placed in the Crown to stand for the overall fun and memories of high school. Foggy and dark, the moonstone is the last jewel to be discovered. As this mysterious stone fills the final space in the Crown, the Class of 1960 faces the unknown, but they carry the spirit of the Crown Jewels-the pearl, the amethyst, the diamond, the topaz, the emerald, and the moon- stone. Should one of these be missing, the true spirit is lost. Because of the qualities which the jewels represent, the class faces tomorrow with pride, courage, and faith. Forget not this mystery which you have seen solved, for these memories are your memories and these stones, your stones. The spirit of Lake Wales High School can only be found in the glory and honor of the Highlander Crown Jewels. 120 . .. x 444' my lLlixJ pool llf1 l'El , 1 ' V - A 3 uf 4. ' , 1, X' O, 4 . We thank the student body for making this yearbook possible. We also thank the staff. Had we not had such a wonderful photographer as Jimmy, we would have always ready member was - everything distress over most respon- been lost. He was ever on call and to help. Another outstanding staff Billy. He was the general handyman from janitor to editor! Our cry of layouts was BiIly. But the person sible for our annual is Mrs. Edwards. Her willing- ness to work and enthusiasm was the encourage- ment we needed most. We have had a lot of fun along with a lot of hard work, but have enjoyed both equally. The Crown Jewel staff waves a fond farewell to the l959-l96O school year. Deana Woolfolk, Editor iso AUTOGRAPHS AJ.
