Kyle Wonderful xgngrechenfs All students at Lake View are required to take four years of English. The curriculum includes literature, creative writing, grammar, public speaking and journalism. By increasing their knowledge of the language, the students are better able to connnunicate with others and learn to express themselves more clearly and concisely. Lake View students learn the basic skills of speaking, reading and writing as they study foreign languages. The study of our neighbor's culture and history provides a foundation for international understanding. To remove the word foreign from the word language is the constant objective of this department. The training and education received in civics and history helps students develop into good, well-informed active citizens. The XfVashington-Colonial-Virginia trip, student government and classroom committee work are interesting and valuable applications of our studies. In order to have a better-educated student body, students now entering Lake View are required to take at least one course in mathematics. Mathematics, on the whole, tends to produce sharper and keener minds and to think clearer and more logically. Lake View's budding Einsteins are given full opportunity to acquire more knowledge in this vast field by partaking in varied science courses. Each Freshman is required to take Gen- eral Science and those desiring to learn more of this field may choose Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Speed and efficiency in office work are taught by Lake View's fine commercial department where extensive courses in typing, stenography, bookkeeping, comptometry and office practice are offered. Lake View trains its commercial students, so that they are prepared to assume the respon- sihilities of the business world. 14
