We stood motionless for a few minutes before our eyes traveled upward to gaze at a familiar sight. There, silhouetted against the black sky, were the school's towers. They stood proud and tall, like great hands reaching to Heaven in praise. or, perhaps, asking spiritual guidance. As friends are distinguished by certain qualities. so are buildings. These towers were the outstanding feature of the school which had become our friend. Within its time-worn walls we had grown from frightened freshmen to adulthood. At first, we were caught in a mad whirl of unknown happenings, -- registration, new classes, school organizations, new friends, and new teachers. As time passed, however, the strangeness disappeared. We realized there was much to learn, and it became necessary to select our from the many subjects offered. We discovered that the Main and Attendance Oflices, and Adjustment Department were friendly places and sources of help to us. We learned to use the library to a better advanta We became a part of Lake View. and it became part of us. We gazed at the towers, thinking of Lake View. We sighed, and with an air of pride, whispered, our school . We stood silently and listened. as the towers echoed our words and faded into the dark night. outside activities, chosen field ge.

V. Benjamin . General Superintendent of Chicago Public Schools Dr. Willis was appointed by the Board of Education to the oflice of General Superintendent in May, 1953. Dr. Willis began his term of oflice in September of this year. The faculty and student body of Lake View High School extend their heartiest greetings to the new super- intendent. Dr. Willis has drawn to our attention the fact that Chicago ap- pointed her first Superintendent of Schools in l853. It is interesting to note that Dr. VVillis is beginning Chicago's second century of education as her new Superintendent of Schools. Again, we wish him well. Page 10
