cJcrctfibook ’83 i 2 Although pages may yellow and the tape get old, the memories of LVA '83 will always be with us. As we began our Scrapbook, pictures were taken and goals were reached. Reaganomics and PIK became a part of our vocabulary. The ending of M A S H, ET went home, and Tootsie got a job in 1983. Iowa elected a new Governor, Terry Branstad and the Hawkeyes won the Peach Bowl. Tylenol poisoning sent shock waves across the country. Lake View voted in cable TV and St. Louis won the World Series. Popular song groups were Journey, Billy Squire, and Men at Work. 3 Spirit exploded throughout the halls as we prepared for the Girls State Basketball Tournament. Nguyen and Tina, Magnus and Miguel stand by spirit posters in their native tongues. The highly successful M A S H Day brought the 4077th to LVA in grand style. CLASS SONG Up Where We Belong August 25, 1982, the first day of school; the first day of our senior year. We gathered in the library to elect officers, (President, Bret Kruthoff; Vice-President, Cynthia Meyer; and Secretary-Treasurer, Kelli Meyer), elect Student Council representatives (Diane Hauser and Donnie Brandt), and hear the Handbook read to us one last time. We welcomed four new mem- bers to our class—Jody Pudenz.Miguel Linares, Magnus Lindgren, and Tina Martensson. Soon everyone was busy with Homecoming— building a float and attending skit practice. The hard work paid off as the skit won first place and the float third. ITED tests were taken for the last time. Ranking in the 92nd percentile nationally, the class received a full day off from school. 37 4 dD L.YvLafcJ Denise A. Daiker Steven L. Gerdes Douglas Dean Drost Steve E. Graber Janelle M. Arriving in the United States on the Youth for Understanding program, he joined the family of Richard and Marvel Seger of Lake View. Miguel comes from Madrid, a major city in Spain. Miguel says, There is a big difference between Lake View and Madrid. Lake View is so quiet. Miguel has a sister, Mercedes, who is 21; and a 14-year old bro- ther Ignacio. When he returns to Spain, Mi- guel plans to continue his educa- tion and become a lawyer or possibly a foreign diplomat. 40 A never-ending smile on Tina Martensson's face will be one of the things the students of LVA will remember. Tina arrived in Lake View from Malmo, Sweden, on October 18, 1982. Her American parents are Ron DiAnne Lillie, and she is sponsored through the American-Scandinavian Student Ex- change program. While in the United States, Tina tried many new things, among them water skiing. Her favorites are chicken, shrimp, and salad. Tina is a very ambitious indi- vidual and brings many new ideas to LVA. She was named to the varsity basketball cheerleader squad, enjoys playing tennis, and swimming. Tina names the main difference between the United States and Sweden is the weather. She plans to finish her schooling (3 years) studying technology upon her re- turn to Sweden. Magnus Lindgren came to the halls of LVA from Vasteras,Sweden. His American family is the Rev. Gary Paul Family of Auburn. Back in Sweden, Magnus has three broth- ers ages 19, 12, and 10. Magnus says he is enjoying his stay in the United States. What does he enjoy about LVA? Magnus listed a very nice senior class, good teachers, and great school spirit. Upon his return to Sweden, he plans to finish school, serve in the military service, and then maybe attend college. Magnus has brought a memorable smile to LVA and has added a lot to our Senior Class. 11 lag mis null gren 41 42 Kara Jean Long vlaMX Joyce D. Lines had to be memorized, characters developed, scenes changed, and props gathered. Everyone pitched in and things finally came together. The performance was a great success. The 1983 Prom will be especially memorable as a blizzard swept across the area leaving 12 inches of snow blown into huge drifts. But, the night went on. Everyone was at the Spring Lake Country Club (some by way of the ditch) for pictures at 5:45. The banquet of prime rib was served at 6:30. Mr. Thomas's annual reading of the will and prophecy was the highlight of the program. After making our way back to the school, the prom-goers enjoyed dancing to Renegade. 74 75 ACADEMIC AWARDS Co-Valadictorian . . Sally Fredrichs Cynthia Meyer Citizenship ............ After losing 1981's MVP Mike McCorkle with a broken leg during the soap scrim- mage, the Blackhawks posted a 8-1 record, losing only to playoff-bound Lohrville. The season gave us our first Homecoming victory since 1976, our first victory over Wall Lake since 1967 , and second place in the Bo-Coon Conference. The Blackhawks were honored by the JC's with a pig roast and with a pot- luck awards supper sponsored by the Blackhawk Backers. All Bo-Coon Conference First Team Donnie Brandt . . . . We made it through advanced com- position, trips to the state tournament, and getting projects done for the spring art show. We even found time to raise baby chicks! A first this year was the serving of chef salads twice a week, and an end- of-the-year picnic din- ner of hamburgers and hot dogs grilled by Chef Kaiser. As we progressed from August to May, goals be- came accomplishments and 1983 brought us all one step further to seeing our dreams become reali- ties. As we move on, we hope that Scrapbook '83 holds memories that will remind you of the friendships we have made and the growing up we have done in the hall- ways, classrooms, and gyms of LVA. 107 Now as the scissors, rubber cement, and lettering are put away, the end of Scrapbook 83 is at hand. The friend- ships that were made along with the promises are memories we will keep in our hearts along with our LVA school pride. The pictures and copy we have put together are the memories that we all share. Before we turn the final page and close the cover on our Scrapbook , we would like to say, Thanks for the mem- ories and we hope you enjoy reflecting back upon them in years to come. VISAL
