Skits, Floats, and a Victory The first place float entry of the Freshman Class Beat'um . This year's Homecoming festivities again proved to be very exciting for everyone. Work on class and club floats and class skits began on Monday. The events on Thursday night began with skits and pep talks and the crowning of the queen. Tom Broich served as Master of Ceremonies and Kevin Kelly crowned Rachel Durst Homecoming Queen for 1971. Rachel's attendants were Sandy Fredrichs and Becky Wollesen. After the corona- tion a snake dance took the students down to the bank comer for pep talks, cheers and the traditional burning hoop. Gary Auen jumped through the burning hoop pre- dicting a victory for the Blackhawks. Here the seniors were named winners of the skit competition. The float parade was held on Friday afternoon. The Freshmen were named winners of first prize with their entry Beat'em . Gary's prediction turned out true enough as the Blackhawks defeated Newell-Providence 66-0. The Homecoming Dance was held immediately following the game with the music being provided by V alt akin . Walking off with first place in the skit competition was the Senior Class. The participants shown be low are Steve Frank, Pat Shelp, Doug Pick, Renee'Nelson, Mary Pat Ferguson, Jane Barto, and Mark Peters. 52

. . . A Salute to “ The theme for the Swing Show this year was LUV . It was divided into the many different forms of love. These include; love of reli- gion, which includes liturgical songs, spirituals, African chant, and mod- em music, a child's love of life, which includes childhood songs, romantic songs. This includes songs from many musicals and love of mankind. The All-Staters were featured in the Swing Show and sang in the Val- entine section of the show. The stage band accompanied the singers and were featured in several selections. 54
