Freshmen Reign at Carnival On April 7, 1972 the LVA Band Boosters presented their annual Band Carnival. The turn-out like every year was better than ever. This year's king and queen were Ronnie Peterson and Linda Page representing the freshman class. The other candidates were Todd Peters and Renee Nelson, seniors; Jeff Bohnen- kamp and Cheryl Phillips, juniors; and Jim Broich and Mary Lou Meister, sophomores. To help finance the band's trip to Canada a drawing was held for a quarter of beef. The winner was Mrs. Paul Simon. 49

“You ’re A Good Man Charlie ” This year’s all-school play, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown , was presented by the LVA drama department on the evenings of November 12 and 13 at 8 o'clock. The story was based upon the famous comic strip, Peanuts , drawn by Charles Schultz. Many of the scenes were directly taken from some of the strips. Also, there were music numbers during the play. Such songs as Sup- pertime , The Book Report , and The Kite , were presented as musical renditions of the characters. Charlie Brown was portrayed by Gary Auen. The story was one of an average day in the life of Charlie Brown and his happiness and misery during this day. The rest of the cast includes: Mary Pat Ferguson as Lucy, Steve Schwarzkopf as Linus, Steve Mc- Connell as Schroeder, Maureen Swanson as Patti, Mark Peters as Snoopy. A small combo accompanied the cast, with Becky Wollesen on piano, Patti Hill on flute, Anne Scott on xylophone, Kim Bromley on per- cussion, and band director, J. A. Meredith on string bass. The play was under the direction of Mrs. Evonne Deur, with Mrs. Arline Hunter directing the music. 48
