Captain John Tharnish jumping through hoop, results were unsinged feathers. Wall Lake burn1ng at stake The 1954 Homecom1ng started off w1th a bang on the evemng of September 30 QThursdayJ The act1v1t1es started w1th a snake dance that or1g1nated at the school bu1ld1ng wh1ch was led by the cheerleaders band and followed by the football boys The processlon squ1rmed turned and weaved unt1l 1t f1nally reached the town square Here the old trad1t1on of havmg Ch1ef Blackhawk Jump through the burn1ng hoop was successfully carrled out by Capta1n John Tharnlsh Speeches were made by several of the local fans and then Capta1n John crowned the home com1ng queen of 1954 After the crownmg of the queen the process1on made 1tS way to the grounds of Ch1ef Blackhawk 1Crescent Beachj The cheerleaders lead the group 1n many more Fr1day was a ra1ny day caus1ng the parade to be postponed unt1l 2 30 when good old Mr Sun f1nally dec1ded to be on our slde The parade was one of the most elaborate yet All totaled there were 43 floats entered In open compet1t1on pr1zes went to the WGO and the Women'S Club The f1rst pr1ze went to the grade school and runrung a close second was the sophomore class 1n the school group The bxggest event of Homecom1ng was the b1g football game Wh1Ch started promptly at 8 P M Lake V1ew Blackhawks met the Wall Lake Comets on the home f1eld The Blackhawks won a good clean battle 38 to 0 The 1954 events closed w1th a dance 1n the h1gh school gymnasxum Carl Bean and h1s orchestra furnlshed the mus1c Homecommg once aga1n sponsored by the Student Counc1l was consldered a huge success. yells. The Alma Mater was sung with several.speeches following.

Dennie Bromley and Jim Stock seem to think the picture shouldn't go in. BENEFIT BAS KET BALL GAME The Annual Staff composed of Juniors and seniors was orgamzed under the direction of Mr Maurlce Miller Phyllis Jans editor got the staff down to work at once Several means were used to raise the needed amount of money which was close to S600 to put out the annual The members sold advertisements to the businessmen held an all hlgh school bake sale at Christy s Plumbing sponsored atown and country basketball game sold refreshments at various school functions held a benefit movie called The Happy Tlme in the Lake Theatre and carrled out a large ca.mpa1gn through Junior h1gh and high school to promote the sale of annuals To further supple ment the annual fund the staff had group pictures taken of the elementary grades and sold the pictures to the children The annual staff wishes to thank all those people who have contributed toward the support and production of this year's Pow Wow.
