C ASS POEM Dear old school don't look so sad We know we re the best class that you ever had We hadn t ment1oned lt up unt1l now But most of you guessed lt I don t know how You ll probably mlss us Sen1ors we know But please please don t carry on so You Jun1ors stop crylng you re now at the top Just work good and hard and you ll never flop You Sophomores stop crymg you re no longer green You ll soon be the Jun1ors as you ve always dreamed You Freshmen stop laughmg you ll learn that some day Success comes from hard work and not all from play But serlously now we feel sort of sad And then yet agam we feel sort of glad Our feehngs are mlxed as we leave th1s dear place The future uncertaln we Semors must face But hard work and fa1lure w1ll come and w11l go And success comes at last that everyone knows ASS Ill TORY As we are about to complete the year 1955 1n Lake V1ew Hlgh School we shall turn back the pages of t1me and see what thmgs were 11ke when we f1rst started our th1rteen long years that were to be spent 1n school and also of the progress we have made s1nce then We started kmdergarten w1th a class of twenty one and f1n1shed e1ghth grade w1th thlrty pup1ls Durlng th1s t1me we had M1ss Verla Mooney M1ss Margaret York M1ss Staker M1ss Margerlte Downey Mrs Jasper Therkelsen Mrs Derner Mrs Arlene H111 Mrs Stella Manuel M1ss Evelyn Weber and Mrs Barthlow as teachers for the class of 55 Then we took our b1g step forward we became freshmen Th1rty seven freshmen to be exact In hlgh school we entered whole heartedly 1nto the act1v1t1es as freshmen That year we part1c1pated 1n the Homecom1ng Parade w1th a Homecom1ng Queen Cand1date 1n the Band Carn1val w1th another queen candldate Of course the class had members 1n each of the extra currlcular act1v1t1es In our sophomore year we lost n1ne members but yet part1c1pated 1n the usual act1v1t1es Thls year Phylhs Jans relgned as queen over the Band Carn1val Members of our class served as walters and waltresses at the Junlor Senlor Banquet Now It seems llke we re fmally gettlng somewhere we re m1ghtyJun1ors w1th brlght shmy new class rlngs to prove It Th1s year was perhaps the buslest of all F1rst off came Homecom1ng of whlch our class won second place w1th our float entry Hats Off to Our Team We as Jun1ors put on the Jumor Senlor Banquet and Prom Under the Sea under the super v1s1on of class sponsors M1ss Marcene Noonan and Mr James Schultz We also had our f1rst three act play The Llttle Dog Laughed dxrected by Mlss Grace Long We traveled to Sac C1ty w1th the semors to attend Career Day Soon the last page 1n our memory book whlch we fmd to be the most compact Thls year turns out to be even busler than our Junlor year F1rst of all graduat1on p1ctures were taken by Genelll of Sloux C1ty Next Homecom1ng w1th Norma Fr1sb1e as Queen and Phyllls Jans and Ruth Dmges as her attendants There was also the Band Carn1val Later another Career Day at Sac C1ty fTh1s t1me we were much more attent1ve than 1n the prev1ous year j We certalnly can t overlook the Jun1or Semor Banquet and Prom w1th the colorful theme Over the Ralnbow Followlng the banquet came the senlor play The Curlous Savage d1rected by M1ss Darlene Cason Fmally our long awa1ted Sklp Day arr1ved Ve1sha at Ames As an end of our hlgh school career Baccalaureate Class N1ght and Commencement We f1n1shed as a class of twenty seven Thus ends our h1story of the th1rteen years 1n the Lake V1ew Publlc School but not of our future plans Some are golng on for further educatlon 1n the flelds of teachlng nursmg coachmg farnung rad1o and telev1s1on May there always be success m the l1ves of the mem bers of the class of 55 and may we always keep 1n mmd that those WHO DO NOT ADVANCE FALL BEHIND. 1 1 1 . , . . . 1 - 1 , . , . . 1 1 1 1 . . - 1 1 1 1 1 1 - 1 1 1 1 1 - 1 - - 1 1 1 , 1 1 1 1 1 , . 1 1 I 1 1 1 1 , . C ASS PROPHE Y Who would have thought that 1n the year of 1965 that anyone would f1nd Mr Frank M1ller on the planet Mars teach1ng the young MaFt1aHS how to play t1ddly w1nks He was forced to th1S because he needed the experlence before he could be el1g1ble to teach on the Moon But every once 1n a wh1le he does get lonesome for some of the people of the planet Earth and he turns h1S powerful telescope to V1eW the1r haphazard l1ves ThlS part1cular t1me he 1S catch1ng up on h1s old students of the class of 55 As he focuses h1s telescope on the U S he sees one of h1s students Kenny Bromley 1n a Naval Research Department 1n Washlngton D C It seems that Ken boy 1S the most decorated M1ddee 1n peace t1me At the research department he 1S worklng 1n cooperat1on w1th the Waves to test a new product a k1nd of smearless l1pst1ck As the telescope scans the campus of Pr1ncetonUn1vers1ty we f1nd Marv1n Lloyd Bechler who 15 now a dynamlc entomolog1st g1v1ng four hours a day of h1s valuable t1me to further the knowledge of SCIGHCC Marv1n 1S leadmg an 1nvest1gat1on at the un1vers1ty to f1nd out why bed bugs hum 1n the1r sleep The Nat1onal Soclety for Better Sleep1ng has glven Professor Bechler the necessary funds for th1s worthy cause Marv1n returns to h1s humble abode each n1ght to be greeted by h1S ever lov1ng w1fe Darlene who by the way was the 1nsp1rat1on for th1s l1ttle 1nvest1gat1on In New York we f1nd Norma Lee Fr1sb1e work1ng as ed1tor of the New York T1mes Wh1le Norma lS gather1ng news for the paper her husband Darrell Fr1sb1e QNorma refused to change her name! 1S home gett1ng meals wash1ng clothes and tak1ng care of those seven llttle young sters Pat Gr1ff1n 1S really an athlet1c coach at the YMCA1n Ch1cago She g1V6S cal1sthen1cs to the star football players of Ill1no1s Un1vers1ty It lS really bal1er1na lessons the coach feels that lt helps coord1nate those lunkheads Too bad you re Mrs Hawley Pat Mr M1ller sees a large crowd of people at Denver Colorado and stops to take a closer look He f1nds Mr McK1nley who has always lead a clean l1fe Speaklng at the Nat1onal Con vent1on of the WCTU M1ss Annabel E1chhorn the nat1onal presldent 1ntroduced Mr McK1nley Ann s motto 1S Absta1n S1nner or Your Dr1nk1ng W1ll Be Your End ln order to stop her end less speeches on the subgect the nat1on 1S gradually Chaflglng 1ts dr1nk1ng hab1ts For recreat1on Mr M1ller turns h1S telescope to the f1lm1ng of a mot1on p1cture 1n MEXICO Th1s mov1e 15 a sp1ne t1ngl1ng western drama starr1ng Reno Steer better known to us as Gene R1dd1e Gene 1S1'!'13.k1Hgthe'p1CtLlI'6 OUTLAW S SON Th1s p1cture shows Gene as a two f1St9d bow legged knock kneed woman k1ller FOSd1Ck h1s wonder horse must also be ment1oned as he furn1shed the bra1ns The mov1e 1S supposed to be out of th1S world and W111 be when lt 1S premlered 1n one of the theatres on Mars Mart1ans don t m1ss th1s p1cture All at once Mr M1ller s telescope 1S glued to a p1n up the new Hollywood Queen V1rg1n1a Swleter Vlrglnla 15 the Jane Russell of th1s era She 1S supposed to be worth about flfty m1ll1on and three husbands Mr M1ller 1S lookmg forward to see1ng Vlrglnla 1n person at the prem1ere ofReno Steer s new mov1e In Nevada at the Atom1c Prov1ng Grounds Mr M1ller sees Sh1rley Buxton about to leave on a rout1ne cru1se 1n space Sh1rley was on the f1rSt lnterplanetory space sh1p to Mars wlth Mr M1ller as her passenger It seems she has Just arr1ved back from Pluto she certa1nly must be space happy Mr M1ller sees Ruth D1nges on her vacat1on 1n San Franc1sco Ruth came to look at the b1g cats At home 1n V1rg1n1a her ma1n occupat1on 15 runn1ng a home for the homeless cats As a Slde occupat1on Ruthle 1ndulges whole heartedly 1n pol1t1cs She 1S better known to the other half as M1ss Pres1dent Boy does lt look cold down on the South Pole Who do you th1nk 11VeS there?
