M YOR FOR In preparatlon for Mayor for a Day the sen1or class 1nv1ted several c1ty off1c1als to talk to them so that they would have a clearer 1dea of what Mayor for a. Day lnvolved Next the semors elected Eugene Seymour as Mayor and Dav1d Parkmson Marvxn Bechler Delane Broughton Judy S1nn1ng and Pat Gr1ff1n as members of the counc1l Ruth Dmges Phylhs Jans and Gayle R1edl were elected as Park Comm1ss1oners and Kenny Bromley as C1ty Treasurer The rest of the sen1ors were appo1nted to the var1ous Off1C6S by the newly elected mayor Gene Seymour At 9 00 Thursday morn1ng Aprll 20 the sen1ors started off the day w1th Gene Seymour be1ng sworn 1n as mayor by one of the newly appo1nted clerks Norma FTlSb16 The new may or then called ameetmg ofthe f1ve counc1lmen and the two clerks Norma and W1ll1am Claussen The mayor proceeded to swear 1nto off1ce the members of the counc1l and the other elected and appomted off1c1als The counc1l meetlng was concerned largely w1th the f1x1ng of salarles and the approvlng of bonds and appo1ntments made by Gene The appo1nted off1c1als were Carolyn Hartman and Ed Gerdes as Street Comm1ss1oners Eugene Schulte Annabel E1chhorn Sh1rley Ralne and Don Dunkm as Deputles w1th Ron Cox as Marshall Luverne Bruemng as Dump Supermtendent Betty Peters V1rg1n1a Sw1eter and Al1ce Dr1ll1ng as members of the Llbrary Board John Tharmsh as C1ty Sol1c1tor and Glenn Messenbrlnk and Gene R1ddle as members of the Ut1l1t1es Department The counc1l adjourned and met agaln as the Board of Health to approve the appomtment of Shlrley Buxton as Health Off1cer At 2 30 court was held w1th Gene Seymour act1ng as the Justlce of the Peace Smce there were no trafflc f1Ck6tS g1ven for v1olat1ons there were no tra.ff1c cases 1n court as there had been 1n the past The Marshall brought 1n two cooperat1ves offenders of c1ty ordlnances and thelr cases were tr1ed by John Tharn1sh the c1ty sol1c1tor for the day and Mr Logan who acted as prosecutmg attorney From the research and 1nvest1gat1on of the counc1l members and the act1ng off1c1als for the day the followmg recommendat1ons were set forth The repalr of Lake Road and the rnalntenance of all other streets The cleanmg up of the men s rest room 1n the MuH1C1pa1 Bulldmg The mstallatlon of a water fountam 1D Speaker s Park The repamtmg of yellow park1ng hnes to avo1d confuslon The enforcement of subsect1on 10 of sectlon 3 of c1ty ordmance 75wh1ch makes double park1ng lllegal The 1nstallat1on of a stop hght such as the one on the h1ghway by school at L1l11an Armstrong s and Welch s corner After part1c1pat1ng 1n Mayor for a Day the senlor class voted unarurnously 1n favor of cont1nu1ng Mayor for a Day because they felt they were better mformed as to the organ1zat1on of the c1ty government . 4, ,, . . . . . . 1 - ll lf ' . C ASS POEM Dear old school don't look so sad We know we re the best class that you ever had We hadn t ment1oned lt up unt1l now But most of you guessed lt I don t know how You ll probably mlss us Sen1ors we know But please please don t carry on so You Jun1ors stop crylng you re now at the top Just work good and hard and you ll never flop You Sophomores stop crymg you re no longer green You ll soon be the Jun1ors as you ve always dreamed You Freshmen stop laughmg you ll learn that some day Success comes from hard work and not all from play But serlously now we feel sort of sad And then yet agam we feel sort of glad Our feehngs are mlxed as we leave th1s dear place The future uncertaln we Semors must face But hard work and fa1lure w1ll come and w11l go And success comes at last that everyone knows ASS Ill TORY As we are about to complete the year 1955 1n Lake V1ew Hlgh School we shall turn back the pages of t1me and see what thmgs were 11ke when we f1rst started our th1rteen long years that were to be spent 1n school and also of the progress we have made s1nce then We started kmdergarten w1th a class of twenty one and f1n1shed e1ghth grade w1th thlrty pup1ls Durlng th1s t1me we had M1ss Verla Mooney M1ss Margaret York M1ss Staker M1ss Margerlte Downey Mrs Jasper Therkelsen Mrs Derner Mrs Arlene H111 Mrs Stella Manuel M1ss Evelyn Weber and Mrs Barthlow as teachers for the class of 55 Then we took our b1g step forward we became freshmen Th1rty seven freshmen to be exact In hlgh school we entered whole heartedly 1nto the act1v1t1es as freshmen That year we part1c1pated 1n the Homecom1ng Parade w1th a Homecom1ng Queen Cand1date 1n the Band Carn1val w1th another queen candldate Of course the class had members 1n each of the extra currlcular act1v1t1es In our sophomore year we lost n1ne members but yet part1c1pated 1n the usual act1v1t1es Thls year Phylhs Jans relgned as queen over the Band Carn1val Members of our class served as walters and waltresses at the Junlor Senlor Banquet Now It seems llke we re fmally gettlng somewhere we re m1ghtyJun1ors w1th brlght shmy new class rlngs to prove It Th1s year was perhaps the buslest of all F1rst off came Homecom1ng of whlch our class won second place w1th our float entry Hats Off to Our Team We as Jun1ors put on the Jumor Senlor Banquet and Prom Under the Sea under the super v1s1on of class sponsors M1ss Marcene Noonan and Mr James Schultz We also had our f1rst three act play The Llttle Dog Laughed dxrected by Mlss Grace Long We traveled to Sac C1ty w1th the semors to attend Career Day Soon the last page 1n our memory book whlch we fmd to be the most compact Thls year turns out to be even busler than our Junlor year F1rst of all graduat1on p1ctures were taken by Genelll of Sloux C1ty Next Homecom1ng w1th Norma Fr1sb1e as Queen and Phyllls Jans and Ruth Dmges as her attendants There was also the Band Carn1val Later another Career Day at Sac C1ty fTh1s t1me we were much more attent1ve than 1n the prev1ous year j We certalnly can t overlook the Jun1or Semor Banquet and Prom w1th the colorful theme Over the Ralnbow Followlng the banquet came the senlor play The Curlous Savage d1rected by M1ss Darlene Cason Fmally our long awa1ted Sklp Day arr1ved Ve1sha at Ames As an end of our hlgh school career Baccalaureate Class N1ght and Commencement We f1n1shed as a class of twenty seven Thus ends our h1story of the th1rteen years 1n the Lake V1ew Publlc School but not of our future plans Some are golng on for further educatlon 1n the flelds of teachlng nursmg coachmg farnung rad1o and telev1s1on May there always be success m the l1ves of the mem bers of the class of 55 and may we always keep 1n mmd that those WHO DO NOT ADVANCE FALL BEHIND. 1 1 1 . , . . . 1 - 1 , . , . . 1 1 1 1 . . - 1 1 1 1 1 1 - 1 1 1 1 1 - 1 - - 1 1 1 , 1 1 1 1 1 , . 1 1 I 1 1 1 1 , .
