The bell rang. . . home rooms were arranged. . . books were rented. . . class- rooms rocked with mental activity. . .the pep rallies offered a Rah, Rah, Rah, for the home team.. . the band played. . .the cheerleaders shouted them- selves hoarse. . .the team played and the 1959-60 school session was in full swing. October placed autumn in full command of the situation. Six weeks tests offered a challenge to the young minds. The spirit of homecoming reached its climax as the queen was crowned. The first holidays were welcomed in November. Football season gave way to basketball as the hard- wood court prospects began to get in shape for com- ing encotmters with their opponents. Students and teachers alike looked forward to the long Christmas vacation. Seniors labored hard in preparation for the annual Christmas dance, the annual staff spent many hours to meet their Decem- ber deadline. The glee club, dressed in their im- pressive robes, inspired their audiences with their December performances. Some good things end, including vacation. With Christmas gone and the arrival of a new year, at- tention was turned toward semester examinations. The flu bug played havoc with teachers and students February brought the basketball season to its cli- max with the district tournament held in Aynor. As March blew in, many Lake View girls built up hopes for the annual Miss Lake View Contest. lt's one -two-three and you're out at the 'ole' ball- game. The sound of the crack of the bat helped spread baseball fever through the Lake View student body. April found Juniors giving their devoted attention to the junior Play. Seniors looked forward to being entertained by the Juniors at the Junior-Senior Ban- quet. That wonderful month of May finally arrived. Seniors were really tops. This had been their year and May was their month. They were honored by Juniors, the senior boys were entertained by the Lions Club. Their edition of the Viewpoint returns in com- pletion. They presented their play. . .prepared for class night. . .listened intently to the speaker of the commencement sermon and saw their long sought goals become a reality as they marched down the aisle to receive their diplomas. They have given themselves to us in many ways. In a dedicated fash- ion, they have attempted to intro- duce us to new and adventurous paths of knowledge. Our mental diets have been well-balanced, having presented us not only with facts, but having fed us with the cherished ideals of the past and having challenged us with high ideals to live by in the future. They have made their time ours in a totally unselfish man- ner. When struggles and diffi- culties seemed to block our mental pursuits, they offered themselves freely that we might more ably digest our ndental foodg when personal problems seemed to plague us, they served us with eternal patience and keen understandingg when doubt seem- ed in the making, they treated us with encouragement and praise. Yes, this is our administra- tion and faculty. They are a part of us and we are a part of them. Q ADMINISTRATION ADMINISTRATIG DECIDES POLICIES Superintendent T, W, Eatnion guides the school system of District ffl. The operation of a high school and three elementary schools is no sniall taks. I-Iis duties are per- formed with skill gained from many years of training and experience. He has the strenuous task of clcgil - ing with the schools' problems and solving theni with the help of thi- school board. All the characteris- tics of a truly superior school main are possessed by Mr, Eatmon. No one could give of himself more unselfishly than he. I-Iis ded- ication to serve with such efficien- cy in the capacity of school super- intendent demands the title of Ad- ministrator of The Times. T W . EATMON S uperinte nde nt LEFT TO RIGHT Clarence Calhoun Billy Rogers Chairman, Edwin Pittman, Cleve Carter, Odell Bryant, al nm-aww-ayww. wmgi, Mr. Robert E. Sanders has ad- vised us with wisdom and kindness during the years at Lake View High. Regardless of his many administra- tive duties, he takes an interest in each of us as an individual. He is willing to understand, challenge, and offer inspiration to all students. As a teacher, we think he is one of the best, We know that in the future, our appreciation of hini will deepen. lt is our desire that all his efforts will bear fruit, which, in turn, will bring to hind the reward of satisfaction and continued suc- sess which he so truly deserves. ROBERT E. SANDERS Principal iii l B' V v, I While assisting Mr. Sanders in his numerous tasks, we find Mrs. Townsend's untiring per- formance is quite important. The typewriter buzzes continu- ously, particularly at test and examination time, yet the regu- lar routine of duties carried on in the principal's office still goes on. Mr. Eatmon gives explicit instructions. to Miss Ford, who so capably deals with the many phases of operation go- ing on in the superintendent's office. The pay-roll must be exact to the penny. No one can afford to be one cent short, neither can we afford to pay them one penny extra! No mistakes can be made in the superintendent's office. a S i l Page Thirteen FOR LEADERSHIP, CO - OPERATIVENESS, AND Mr. Robert E. Sanders English S French Mrs. Osborne L. We belong to them and they belong to us. The sound of the bell transforms our quiet halls into Sources ofa pleasant activity as three-hundred sixty-five grow- ing minds weave their wasy in and out of various classes. The seniors have seen their persis- tent efforts turn dreams into realities as they visualize their diplomas more clearly than ever. The juniors, anticipating the de- parture of the seniors, prepare themselves for the honorable and responsible role that lies just ahead. The middlerof-the-road sophomores see the light of star- dom dawning as they continue their march up the educational ladder. The eager freshmen welcome their challenge in a capable manner as units begin to stack up. The eighth graders, now well-adjusted to life in Lake View High, boom with activity. The rookies of our institution, represented by one-hundred seventh graders, are slowly but surely overcoming their feelings of confusion, creating feelings of security, and belonging to our school family-life. ,ayaawaahn SENIGR T CLASS OFFICER PRESIDENT Maurice Moody VICE-PRESIDENT Miriam Smith SECRETARY B. We help make them what they are and they help make us what we are to become. Here we gain fellowship. This fel- lowship of knowing each other more conupletely beconies possible as we work together in our particular clubs striv- ing to accomplish different objectives. Here we tangle with responsibility. This re- sponsibility deals with elect- ing capable, dependable and willing leaders, consequently our minds are open to the niany decisions that await our judgments in future years. Here we learn the importance of cooperation. Here we learn to express ourselves. Here we find out how to win and how to lose. Here we discov- er how to handle success and how to accent failure. Here we nieet not only the privilege of freedoni, but the respons- ibilities thereof. Here we come in contact with life, life as we have changed, life as we would like to change, and the complex life that we niust face in the future. The club, Sixty-five members strong, is divided into two rehearsal periods. Under the capable direction of Mrs. Mildred Bul- lock, the choral group has prepared a variety of numbers from western spiritual, religious, and popular music to old favorites of which one never tires hearing. This year the club obtained beautiful new choral robes made of royal blue in the standard style. These robes have the added beauty of gold stoles which may be worn in two ways. The robes contribute to the uniformity of the club. For the Sunday afternoon enjoyment of the patrons of Lake View and the surrounding area, the club presented concerts at frequent intervals. These have done much in giving experience to the group, and in giving our com- munities a chance to hear and enjoy the work done during the year. The F.F.A. exists today be- cause of a cooperative spirit and a desire on the part of boys, 14 to 21 years of age, to prepare themselves for farming through vocational agri- culture, to have a national organization of their own in which they receive practical business expe- rience, and enjoy the fellowhip of one another.
