It's just too early in the morning to study and Mr. Talbot's class of future politicians all agree. Lunch time is here and some of the students start for down town. . . But many enjoy the meal prepared in the school cafeteria. One of the many jobs given student librarians is that of typing cards. Here Harlen Forsberg and Dick Perry do the work. Registered students voted on candidates for the national offices and Stevenson won by a small majority. Polls were supervised by the junior government class.

Having completed their third year of activities at high school the juniors are well prepared to fill the roll of seniors in '57 and '58. This class, of 86 members, chose to be headed by Mike Tastad as prexy; Blanche Hopkins, vice-president; Marilou Barclay, secretary; Gloria Volkman, treasurer; and Keith VanDer- Howen, student council representative. Mr. Mardesic, who was new to L.S.H.S., offered many helpful hints to the class as their new advisor. Some of the money-making projects used by the class were bake sales from door to door, a turkey raffle and selling pop and candy at the games. During the year they enlivened the school life by presenting the annual Shoe Shine Dance, at which Pat Gustafson reigned as queen, and the junior prom, held in the spring of the year. To be assured of their share of scholastic honors their 16 members in Torch Society were; Gloria Volkman, Sandra Ward, Linda Sovde, Marcia Welter, Kathy Bariel, Bette Soucy, Mary George, Gary Lofstrom, Keith VanDer Howen, Pat Gustafson, Joyce Eisele, Aina Erickson, Gladys Gabrielson, Blanche Hopkins, Eileen Johnston and Ray Nelson. Those selected for drill team this year, for the first time, were Rita Leese, Glenyce Forsberg, and Darlene Fisher. After many hours of after-school turnout and games Jerry Thorson, Lance Mills, and Mike Tastad earned their school letter for the first time, while Keith VanDer Howen and Gary Lofstrom gained their second stripe.
