i :- , . LAURELS FOR JUNE Not to the accompaniment of shouting crowds and enthusiastic cheerleaders, but in her own quiet way, June Turknett, an English student of Mrs. Mayo's, won just as sure a victory for Lake Shore as any one on the football field or basketball court. In the 1951 Fall contest held by the National High School Poetry Association, June was awarded a certificate of acceptance, stating that her poem God's Day, had been one selected for publication in the ANNUAL ANTHOLOGY OF HIGH SCHOOL POETRY for this year. We are indeed proud of June's accomplishment and the honor her success brings to Lake Shore School. We heartily congratulate her and take pride in printing God's Day in our 1952 Hi-Lights. GOD'S DAY Sometimes I watch on a rainy day, The crying heavens which seem to say, The tiny world looks a bit dirty to me: I think I'd better wash the green grass and that willow tree. Then when the heaven had finished its cry, All the black clouds cleared from the sky. Now it's a bright day early in spring, And all the birds merrily seem to sing. The sun will soon set deep in the west, The birds will be snuggled deep in their nest. In God's holy name we will secretly pray, Thank Thee dear Lord, for so perfect a day.
