ZABIK Andy You shall judge of a man by his foes as well as by his friends. Band 2, 3g Orchesual fHamtramckj. Class Histor The Class of '58 began their thirteen Shorian years as ambitious, yet somewhat timid kindergarteners. The first seven years were spent in getting a foundation for the tedious years ahead. The main goal was learning the fundamentals, but while doing this, we learned to enjoy good times together. Participating in the all-important school spelling bees added to our fun. In the few years before our junior high days, many of us were active in the Safety Patrol Boys or the newly formed girls' Service Squad. Here we gained responsibility and service for our fellow students and teachers. The two years of being in jtmior high gave us a taste of what to expect in high school. We learned to dance in gym classes and gave our first dances. This new and different type of entertainment was enjoyed by most all of us. Mr. Sheppard's section of eighth graders used their share in the profits to attend the first Cinerama. When December came around that year, our class helped Santa Claus out by taking charge of one family's Christmas meal and presents. This was something that made everyone who took part in it have a certain glow in their hearts Freshmen at last! This was the year we had all looked forward to with such anticipation. Our class grew by leaps and bounds as more students came to join us. At our first class meeting we were told what was expected of us as freshmen and of the many great times we could have in working together as a class. We elected our class officers. They were Larry Hawkyard as president, Judy Cutler as vice president, Bonnie Robertson as secretary, and Billy Geatches as treasurer. The Student Council representatives were Marvin Davis, Lorelei Maison, and Laura Webster. Besides a few bake sales at noon hour, the only other fund raising activity we were given was the last dance of the year. The dance was true to its name, for we called it Last Chance. The decorations were beautiful and the music real dreamy. A large crowd turned out, and we felt we had truly spent a year of happi- ness together. Our sophomore year was here before we knew it. At the first class meeting we chose our class officers. Larry Hawkyard was president, Judy Cutler was vice president, Lorelei Maison was secretary, and Laura Webster was treasurer. We became well represented in extracurricular activities as each of us headed in the direction of sports, Shorian staff, cheerleading, G.A.A., debate club, band, Chorus, F.H.A., and other just as important activities. With the coming of Christmas, our class sponsored a Christmas dance with all the trimmings. Twilite Twirl attracted students from all over, and once again we profited. The second and last dance given to us was in the spring. Our SOS dance, Swing On Sophomores, created an outstanding occasion for all who attended. When our junior year finally came into view, we were swamped with activities. At the head of our family were Larry Hawkyard as president, Norbert Roobaert as vice president, Lorelei Maison as secretary, and Laura Webster as treasurer. The magazine sales, skating party, and dances after basketball games helped to fill our pockets for the final goal we hoped to obtain. Our long awaited class rings came just before Christmas to the de- light of all of us. One outstanding and successful event that we shall long remember was our play, Goodnight Ladies. Not only the audience enjoyed it, but we enjoyed putting it on. As spring progressed we treated the seniors to a picnic at Kensington Park. The weather couldn't have been better which made the day a truly delightful affair. We enjoyed plenty of swimming, boating, eating, and just pure fun. As a final highlight of the year, the Junior-Senior Prom came into sight. That memorable evening will not soon be forgotten in our high school memories. At the close of the year Norbert Roobaert and Michael Holmes attended,Wolverine Boys' State at Michigan State University. Laura Webster and iudy Cole went to Wolverine Girls' State on the University of Michigan cam- pus. The honor of going was thoroughly appreciated and all profited by the wonderful experiences. Then came our main event of the year, the magazine drive. We were undoubtedly successful! Then we conquered the three most important events of our junior year. The Junior Play was first. It took place in the early part of the spring. The Junior-Senior Picnic was a gay-old time, and the Junior-Senior Prom was a heavenly affair. Now we are Seniors and we would like to express our appreciation to Mr. Dehnke and Miss Schrotzberger for their hard work and helpfulness. The kindergarten room that we had all worked so hard to leave became our new homeroom. This seemed to tie together all our years at Lake Shore. The begin- ning and ending - both were in the same room. Again we elected our class officers. They were Norbert Roobaert as president, Marvin Davis as vice president, Lorelei Maison as secretary, and Laura Webster as treasurer. Our Student Council representatives were Michael Holmes, Don Quiment, Sandy Papciak, Lorelei Maison, and Bonnie Robertson. It was a busy year for us, with the Christmas card sale, dances, senior pictures, and parties adding to the enjoyment. Our Senior play, The Ten O'Clock Scholar, made us see Hollywood stars in the perform- ances of our classmates. Other significant events during the year were the Carnival, Junior-Senior picnic, and Senior Skip'Day. At last came a momentous part of our goal as seniors. We were headed toward Washington D.C.! It would take volume upom volume to tell of all the joyous memories we have of this once -in -a-lifetime trip. Never again will it be possible to enjoy a trip such as we did this one. Shortly after returning we enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Junior-Senior Prom. Thus, we sadly conclude the history of the Class of '58, We all know that these and other glorious memo- ries of attending La ke Shore will not soon be forgotten by any of us. With this thought in mind, we approach Baccalaureate and Commencement. With both happiness and sadness, we look to a life in which Lake Shore High School gave us our start. Before leaving we would like to give our sincere thanks to Mrs. Edwards and Mr. Rumler for their many hours of hard work and helpfulness to us. :f5:'WM3TY V my , X Kp iw-Q , ,fn , h, fgggfh Sin?
