GQSS jflsfozy The adventures in education of the class of 1955-'56 began in the kindergarten. For many it was a tearful beginning, for both the children and their mothers. Grade school days were happy and carefree. After a few broken limbs and noses and the usual amount of childhood diseases, we finally reached the sixth grade. Our next step was junior high school. We had looked forward to this with great anticipation. When we, the little girls and boys, had finally struggled through Junior High, we had a taste of what our high school days would be like. Most of the girls had decided to change their wardrobes altogether, and many were deciding what color of lipstick would be suitable. The boys were somewhat less excited than the girls. Then before we knew it, we were freshmen, the ones who were usually blamed for all the mistakes, and who had the privilege of sitting in the back during the assemblies. We elected class officers in each of our three divided sections. Then we began to raise money for our class by giving our freshman dance. This was a great success and lots of fun. After all the excitement of our first year, we felt as if we were ready for another step higher. This year we elected officers in the different sections of the tenth grade. We were more mature this year, and we began to get things organized. Our big sophomore dance had a very large turnout. We also had a new idea and gave a donkey baseball game. Fun was had by everyone, except the donkeys. By this time our years in high school were passing rapidly. At the beginning of our Junior year, we elected class officers. Jake Gingrich was president, Charlene Cipponeri was vice president, and Judy Gistinger our treasurer. Chuch Munyon was elected secretary but when his family moved, Nell Wright was chosen in his position. In our Junior year our big thrill was ordering our class rings. Most of the girls chose the pearl stones and some of the boys just the plain gold ones. We added to our treasury by giving roller skating parties at the Mt. Clemens Arena. This year we also gave our Junior play and another donkey baseball game. During this year, Barbara McCollum was chosen as a representative from the eleventh grade to work on the yearbook. She filled all the qualifications for a Co-editor then, and now. Some of the kids also had the idea of making pom-poms for the games and giving bake sales, and they proved to be very profitable. At the close of the year Ron Hofmann and Wilson Born were chosen to go to Wolverine Boys' State at East Lansing. Spring was here now in full bloom and we, the Junior class, invited the Seniors to the Junior-Senior picnic at Stony Lake. This was truly a joyous affair and we had plenty of swimming and boating to last us for the rest of the year. Our next important event came when it was time for the Junior-Senior Prom. That memorable evening will last for a long time in our high school memories. We danced to the music played by the Stardreamers. Some of the Junior girls had the pleasure of ushering at the Commencement for the class of 1955. Now we had finally reached the level for which we had aimed so long. We were Seniors! Again we elected our class officers. They were Jake Gingrich as president, Bob Johnson as vice president, Nellie Wright as secretary, and Judy Gistinger as our treasurer. It was a busy year for us, with senior pictures, the Christmas card sale, and our Senior play adding to the excitement. Other important events during the year were the Carnival and the Junior-Senior picnic. Then before we knew it, we were climbing aboard the Baltimore and Ohio, heading for Washington D.C. Boy! at last we were on our way. It would take books to really describe the wonderful trip. We returned knowing there would never be another vacation like this one. We got back just in time to get our Prom clothes ready for the Junior-Senior Prom. When we walked up to get our diplomas on Commencement night, we knew that we had climbed the hills: the mountains lie beyond.
