'im' Wazwg mi As we review the colorful and varied experiences of our grade and high school days, those changing Gscenes from timid first grade to dignified twelfth, we cannot but feel both joy and sorrow. These are but a few of the memories that flash into our minds: First Grade--We were six years old as our tearful mothers sent us off to school, A few of us were also tearful. But we had our reward when we leamed to write our names, Second Grade--'Did you ever see a lassie go this way and that? Our first taste of flash cards and water colors, Third Grade--Exposed to higher arithmetic and geography. Fourth Grade--An abrupt change for some of us. New teachers and system. Fifth Grade--How proud we were of our patrolman belts and badges. Sixth Grade--Oh that long year waiting to get in Junior I-lighl Seventh Grade--This year we were important with our first big party. Eighth Grade--Manners and conventions mn amuck until the end of the year when interest zoomed in the way of dancing and parties, Ninth Grade--Freshmen at lastl Number of new friends from Greater Gratiot, District 7, St. Gertnldes, and Harrison Township. Mr, Gabrysiak was assigned our sponsor for this year. Our big social event was the Freshman Dance in the spring at North Shore, Tenth Grade--We started this year with Mrs. Eggleston and Miss Green our class sponsors. We became significant by joining clubs to carry on with school activities, G, A. A, , F, H, A. , and Chorus. Wambach, Watson, Schrank, Evans, Brown, Tapert and Powell were already exhibiting their ability on the football field, and in basketball we cheered for Furest and Token. In December we had our biggest thrill of the year in the Snowball Bounce with the Sundowners furnishing the music. Eleventh Grade--At the head of our family were Bill Furest, Presidents Harvey Spikes, Vice President: Marlene Yunke, Secretaryg and Vivastine Wright, Treasurer. Student Council representatives were Bea Rattray and Rich Ziegler. At the first class meeting Mrs. Edwards was elected class sponsor, We sold Christmas cards and candy. Our musical comedy, 'Miss Starlight , was the outstanding event. We had another Don Comell in Bill Furest and Joni James in Betty Reddo. By this time there were changes that had to be made in our class officers, Harvey Spikes dropped out of school and Richard Watson was elect- ed to replace him as vice president, Our secretary, Marlene Yunke, decided on an MRS. degree and Shirley Luckett was chosen to take her place. After Christmas we saw stars on skates. A successful skating party helped to swell the coffers in our treasury. Another crowning event was the Junior-Senior Prom at the Civic Center, Music by Jim Hendricks and His Band. Big Nightll Twelfth Grade--On September 9th, we enrolled as Seniors, We had much the same schedules but classes went more rapidly. With Bill Furest, Ken Token, Shirley Luckett, and Vivastine Wright as class officers we started this, our last year, with a bang. Christmas Cards, magazines, Pep shirts, and candy to be sold almost put us in the retail business. We also tried our hand with concessions at the football and basketball games with dances following the sports events. Two more skates helped us on our way, The class was well represented in football, basketball, track, baseball, and no less than five of the cheerleaders were seniors, Our senior year was marred by one sad event, the serious illness and death of our classmate Winston Powell. He had endeared himself to all of us and engraved a place in our hearts always to be remem- bered. In the spring a talent show--and then the Senior-Boy Scout Carnival--Come one, come allll All ac- tivities bringing us closer to our Senior Trip. The Junior Picnic for the Seniors was a hugh success. Everyone had a big time. June 2 found us all yelling--All Aboard! Washington here we come! Oh what a time! It would take another book to tell you all about it. We agreed it was worth working and waiting for. The Junior-Senior Prom was held June 10 at the Civic Center, Another memorable event, Yes, Lake Shore High School, we came to you, we have worked for you, we have been you. You have become a part of us that will never leave our hearts, for these memories and others are deeply embedded there, With this thought in mind, we approach Baccalaureate and Commencement. With regret and joy we look forward to new experiences and new situations in the future. Q Q

WINSTON POWELL In a short time we shall receive our diplomas, one of our class- mates will not be with us. A fatal illness removed Winston from our midst, but not from our memories. In class, on the football field, on the basketball court, through the halls--big good natured, always with that broad smile--Winston endeared himself to all of us. To his memory we dedicate this page in our annual. Qaeda!! Q
