CLASS lllS'l'0llY It was September of 1949 when we, the class of 53 began our career at Lake Shore Hugh School Our furst meetung was sponsored by Mr Burnett, who stayed fauthfully by us the enture year We elected Ed Geatches presudent, Bud Sova vuce presudent, Stan Grondzuk secretary and Art Young treasurer, Helen Wulluams and Chuck Bungham were our student councul representatuves We managed to survuve through our freshman year pretty well, some of our classmates even earnung varsuty letters We became members of varuous clubs and trued to attend most of the school actuvutues The last dance of the year was guven to us and we named ut The Poppy Hop and wuth a luttle effort had a lot of fun at our furst dance To end the year, we went to Belle Isle on our class pucnuc The followung September we returned as sophomores, eager to get started un thus new school year We chose Mrs Kern as our sponsor and elected Ed Geatches presudent, Ed Born vuce presudent, Ron Tanks secretary, Mary Ann Rodgers treasurer LaDonna Butcher and Bud Sova, student councul members We agaun louned the varuous clubs and attended school actuvutues Beung a luttle older and a Iuttle surer of ourselves helped, and our enrollment un events grew More of our fellows made varsuty letters and we had our own two cheer leaders To make money for our senuor trup, we sold school puns, had a bake sale, and two school dances Our furst dance was held at Chrustmas tume, we named ut Yule Log and decorated accordungly At our second dance, whuch we called The rung Froluc , we were a Iuttle more extravagant and had Duck Adlen and The Sundowners provude the musuc The gym was also decorated for thus dance Our last event of the year was the school pucnuc at Walled Lake, where we all had a good tume In the fall of 1951 we became lunuors, eager to begun thus year whuch would brung us one step closer to our goal of a completed hugh school educatuon We began the year wuth the help of Mrs Eggleston, our sponsor, and our offucers Bob Townsend, student councul members We took the requured sublect matter and struggled through ut somehow, and of course went all out for the actuvutues We were agam proud of the fellows un our class who went out for sports, especually Bob Gunnungham, who was elected captaun of the football team Thus year we had three varsuty cheerleaders to represent our class We chose our class rungs and were proud of them when they arruved We had a dance un the fall whuch we called The Hunters Froluc then came our furst bug event, our J Hop, whuch we dubbed Sweetheart Swurl It was held at North Share and was decorated around the theme of Valentunes Day Duck Adlen and The Sundowners provuded the musuc I rul, we gave our play, The Man on the Staurs , and got our furst taste of grease paunt and stage lughts At the end of the year we went to Walled Lake for our school pucnuc, wuth the class of 52 as our guests At last our senuor year came, and we were the leaders of the school We chose Mr Smuth for our class sponsor, and our offucers as follows Ron Tonks presudent, Pete Kravutz vuce presudent, Betty Wambach secretary Ruchard Arentz treasurer, Kathy Wust and Don Vercruysse, student councul representatuves We were a Iuttle more un earnest about our studues now, and began guvung seruous thought to our futures Of course, we went out wholeheartedly for all clubs and other actuvutues Many of our classmates earned varsuty letters, and we were represented by fuve senuor cheerleaders After the games, we held dances ana rook care of the concessuons W also took on varuous prouects to rause funds for our senuor trup Our play, 'Desperate Ambrose , was guven un February The furst taste of uournalusm, for many of us, was found puttung out the year book In May, we held our prom and went on our senuor trup to Chucago and then to Mackunac Island We were the guests of the class of 54 at our school pucnuc The last event of our senuor year, and the goal of our careers at Lake Shore, was our graduatuon un June 17 , . . . , . . - . .
