We Cllmb Clay ,HLA tory We Bulld the Ladder by Whlch We Cllmb As eager hopeful freshmen, we began to put together the ladder by whlch to reach our goal grad uatlon as the class of 1952 The flrst rung was the electlon of our freshman offlcers presxdent, Roger Relss vxce presldent, George Denmson, secretary, Helen Perry, treasurer, Jerry Smlth Student Councll members, Sally Keller and Rlchard Johnson For a llttle added enJoyment we declded on a hayrlde, held at Jack's Stables Soon lt was t1me to add our second step we presented the Blossom Ball the last dance of the year The summer flew by, and soon we were sophomores We began to bulld agam when we elected our new offlcers presldent, Roger Reiss vlce presldent B111 Plutschuck, secretary Dorothy Chetkovxch, treasurer, Don Werbrouck, Student Councll members Sally Keller and Rlchard Johnson We worked very hard on the fourth step of our steadlly growmg ladder the sale of red and gray book covers As sophomores, we gave two dances whxch comprlsed the flfth and slxth rungs They were the Tmsel Twxrl at Chrlstmas, and the Honey Hop , at the end of the year Of course we held our hayrlde agam, thls t1me at Ingleslde Inn Junlors at last, and how fast our ladder was to be extended ln th1s year Our seventh step was the electxon of offlcers They were Rlchard Johnson, presldent Jerry Deldm, vxce presldent Helen Perry, secretary Bert Sterlmg treasurer Joyce Mmer and George Denmson, Student Councxl members W sold book covers agam, and sales of penclls and shampoo added to our growmg ladder Paper drlves each Saturday helped fashlon the nmth rung The tenth shmmg and brlght, was added ln February when we gave our fu'st b1g formal dance, the J Hop, wh1ch we called The Mardl Gras' Also m February we recexved our class rmgs, whlch proclalmed to all that the proud possessors were gettmg nearer to Ball Bounce ' they added the eleventh and twelfth rungs to our ladder The last step of our Jumor year, but not the least by far, was added when we held our play, The Inner Wllly The plcmc for the senxors, whlch we held at Walled Lake Park, and the acceptance of the lantern from the senlors on class nlght, marked the end of our Jumor year The completlon of our ladder was 1n slght, and we worked steadlly toward our goal We constructed our fourteenth rung wxth the electlon of officers for our semor year pres1dent, Rlchard Johnson, v1ce presldent, Roger Relss, secretary, Helen Perry, treasurer, Bert Sterlmg Student Councll members, Conme Hubbell and Jerry Smlth The fxfteenth and slxteenth steps were formed wlth the sale of mag azmes and Chrxstmas cards Our Frlday night dances after football and basketball games added rungs seventeen through twenty e1ght We enterprlslng senlors even managed to have a band The Sundown ers , play for most of our dances The twenty mnth step still vlbrates wlth the laughter and fun whxch marked our Semor Carnlval Tlme was runmng short, and stlll more steps were needed before we reached our goal The next one, number tlurty, was smeared a llttle wlth grease pamt as we dlsplayed our talents wlth another play, a h1llb1lly comedy, called Comm Round the Mountam' Then w1th pen and pencll m hand we set forth to draw up an annual, whlch we called The Shore O Scope of 1952 Rung number thlrty one, sparklmg w1th Stardust and brlght muslc, marked our second and last formal dance, the Semor Prom Our goal was but one step further, the end of our four years of study, work and pleasure We took our accumulated assets, and as a class made a flve day trlp to Washmgton D C We came back to baccalaureate, then class nlght, and fmally our goal, graduatlon But as we recelved our dlplomas and stood wxth them ln hand we reahzed that although we had reached our goal, the extensxon of our ladders should not stop Thls was Just the begmmng there would be more goals to reach as tlme went by and lt would be up to us to work toward them, and achieve them with success So, armed wlth the knowledge and the frlendshlps we have acqulred durmg the last four years, wlth confldence m ourselves and trust 1n God, we, the Semor Class of 1952, bld good bye to our carefree school days and set
