SERV ICE OFFICE HELPERS Uffice helpers arc members of the National Honor Society, who voluntarily give up their free periods in order to help out in the office. Solovey. 60 o ERICK'S DELICATESSEN ASSEMBLY The importance of assemblies lies in the fact that they are a source of supervised extra-curricular activities for interested students. Also, the entertainment value of these student presentations is important to the student body as a whole. Faculty mem- bers are active in the preparation of assem- blies, too. Each teacher usually participates in the presentation of one assembly annual- ly. Those students and teachers who con- tribute to the production of assemblies de- serve our appreciation because much originality and hard work go into the form- ulation of an assembly program. M fai l J 1- M 1 ' ' 4 tl gill? X - ' 1 'TS- The development of our Band and Orchestra at Lake Shore may be compared very nicely with the passing of the twenty-four hours in a day. Let's look back to the wee-hours when these groups were started. ln 1927, with Mrs. Ho1tz's help. the Orchestra made its first appearance. This small group rapidly increased in size and ability, and was able by 1933 to attend the annual Music Festivals at Fredonia. ln the years 1934 to 1942, it was able to go on to the State Finals lno mean featl 4 times. As we creep around the clock to more compatible hours, we find that our Orchestra still competes at Fredonia every year. Although the State Finals no longer exist, the Erie County Music Educator's Association sponsors All-State Sectionals which many members of the Orchestra have participated in. ln the past few years, the orchestra has attended several Buffalo Philharmonic Concerts at Kleinhans Music Hall. This past year the Orchestra played for assemblies, the Concert, and for eighth grade and high school graduations. They are now busily preparing to uphold their excellent rating of I received at Fredonia last May. The Band entered the picture in 1932, and worked so hard that in 1933 it placed second in its class at Fredonia and was eligible for the State Finals at Syracuse that year. Since then. it has consistently received good or excellent ratings at Fredonia and was eligible 7 times for the Finals from 1933 to 1942. lt, too, participates in the County Sectionals. The other activities this year included playing for assemblies, several pep-rallies and football games, Class night, the Band Concert in the Spring, and at Fredonia.
