GIRLS' CHORUS MIXED CHORUS Ah! Sweet! I.ovelyl Fveryone agrees that time stands still when we hear our choruses sing. I.et's turn back the calendar and sec how these organizations came to bc. and be so good. The Girls' Glee Club. as it was called until recent years, was started by Mrs. Holt! in l9flls. The group sang for assemblies, the annual Spring Concert. and at the music contest at Fredonia. Each year since then, it has participated and received a rating of I. II. or III. with years I937 and 1945 outstanding in its I rating. In l942 the group sang at the State Sectional meeting held in Hamburg that year. This past year the Girls' Chorus made very good appearances at the Concert and Christmas assembly. and is working toward making this year's rating at the Festival a solid Al In past years. one of the high points of the school year was the Uperetta. directed by Mrs. Holtz. The best remembered as the big hit was the Mikado . in I937. As time went on. and the school enrollment began to grow toward its present overcrowded condition. it was impossible to produce such a work. However. with the facilities the new school offers. perhaps once again the list of annual events will include an operetta. Although we all think that our Mixed Chorus. started in l95l. is a new organization at I.akc Shore. there is a record of a mixed chorus in 1933! However. during the war years it ceased to exist. and was replaced by the Girls' Glee Club. Our present group contains as many male enthusiasts as female. and is rapidly growing in size and popularity. The chorus sings for assemblies. the Spring Concert and the Festivals at Fredonia and has received ratings of 2. 3. and 2 in the past 3 years. Much of the fun of belonging to the chorus is fulfilled at the re- hearsals on Mondays and Fridays. We'lI all remember the time our president. Denny Warwick. so graciously and gracefully led us in the absence of Mrs. Holtz! Many of this group sang in the County Sectional at Orchard Park in April. WILLIAM A. POWERS, JR. 0 57
