TIME ON OUR HANDS As every properly working time piece follows its plan and ticks away the hours very regularly and systematically, so it is with our school days. After following a well-ordered schedule we are glad to hear the alarm denoting the seventh hour and a little time on our hands to indulge in our favorite hobbies and interests. STUDENT COUNCIL - This year will certainly be remembered as an outstanding one for the Student Council. A new angle entered into the election of students to the Student Council, our governing body. After a week of posters, buttons, and an assembly stating each candidate's platform, the competition was climaxed by the elections and the council settled down to work. Their maior project was writing a new constitution which is more up-to-date and better meets their needs. They carried out their usual services of remedy- ing any faults proposed in the Suggestion Box, the student's medium of contact with the council, and of providing hall and cafeteria monitors. As a small money-saving device, they presented the Student-Faculty Basketball game in February, which, needless to say, was a success. ALPHA SIGMA - Since the students work diligently to become Latin Honor Society members in the l, II, and III classes of Latin, they are looked upon as having obtained a distinguished scholastic record in the course. Having attained this scholarship, they spend part of the time on their hands with this Honor Society. This group is not expected to contribute much time in presenting events or meetings because it is mainly a club that points out the achievement of some of the students undertaking the language. The main highlight of their activities is initiation. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY - Our chapter of the National Honor Society has had quite a busy year. These students carry out some very helpful and responsible iobs. Besides working in the office during free periods, the students sponsor the Red Cross and March of Dimes drives in the school. They present their induction ceremony at an assembly and help in the success of the Open House for parents in November. DRAMATICS CLUB - Our advisor, Mrs. Hazelton, believes that there is much dramatic talent to be developed, but there is not much spare time to practice this development in the club itself since we have such a tight schedule. Most of this dramatic ability is exercised in the Senior Play and various assemblies. Outstanding ability in this field is recognized by the teachers presenting plays. Students are given an opportunity to demonstrate their talent before the whole student body. Other students participate by giving cues, working on make-up and laboring on the sets backstage. GREEN AND WHITE - Miss Hohenstein's monthly school paper was greatly in demand. If you did not arrive at school by eight-twenty you did not purchase a paper because there was none to be had. The staff will not forget the work, time, and fun spent in Room 202 after school while gathering, typing, printing, and publicizing the sale of the student news. SHORE LINES - This year we hurried to issue the yearbook earlier than usual so that all, especially seniors, could enioy it while still active in the school year. Most of Mrs. Tidd's time was spent rushing staffs in order to meet our deadline. The theme, passing of time , and white covers, if we can have them , provided two excellent discussion topics for our brief meetings in the library during the seventh period. The staff was very proud of hitting a new record in the number of student subscriptions solicited.
