X N i X! . v-W' Q x O Q o I SENIORS 104153 KO Lois, Roberta, Arlyne, Edna, Mary emor Class The high school years of the class of 1956 are over, but fond memories have been collected by the Seniors through their four years at Quinault High The class of '56 remembers the fun and frolic of their freshman year, their super Soph days, their jolly times as Juniors, and their superiority as Seniors They have unselfishly given of themselves to make the school merry As leaders of school activities, student body affairs, dramatics, annual and newspaper staffs, they have accom plished much, In the top senior class office was Arlyne Fishel. Lois Fairchild acted as vice-president. Roberta Davis did the pen pushing for the Seniors. Edna Pickett kept the books balanced while Mary Sevey represented the class on the student council. Q., e e e A A B111 Isom, Seo , Daryl Olson, Vice Pres , Dale Fishel, Treas Jumor Class The Juniors have proved themselves a very active group They have supported the school whole heartedly and have willingly performed many tasks to aid school activities Delmer Colegrove as president has directed class meetings and activities, assisted by Daryl Olson as vice president Bill Isom kept a record of events and Dale Fishel took care of the money Two members of the class, Sonja and Val, were student body officers Barbara was yell leader Sonja, Barbara an Karen were Girls' Club officers while Delmer, Gary and David James held offices in the Lettermen's Club Dale and Val represented the class in the band, Sonja won third place in the interpretive reading contest, Dale third in acting and Daryl third in extempore speaking which added enough points to give Quinault the sweepstakes trophy in the Grays Harbor tournament. In football, basketball and baseball the boys of the class were active participants. Girls favorably represented the class both in basketball and baseball. The Juniors look back on the year with a feeling of accom- plishment and look forward, when as Seniors, the aim will be to give even greater service to the school. W A . f ' 4' 'Q K ,J SOPHOMURES W 1U4la3Z Q7 X.: NK Jean, Barbara, Louise, Leonard, John ophomore Activity, drive and ambition characterized the class of 1959 The top position of the class was held by gavel wielder Joan Johnson while Louise Sevey served as her chief assistant Note keeper for the class was Leonard Aiken and John Street had charge of the money The stu dent council representative was Barbara Forbes the first semester and Bruce Brown the spring term Always interested in activities the class has partici pated in many events during the year. Both the boys' and the girls' basketball teams included sophomores on their squads Archie, Larry, Aaron, Oran and Leonard played while B uce was the manager For the girls Virginia, Janet, Joan and Louise participated in the sport Archie, Larry and Leonard received letters in football Bruce and Oran were managers. Others participating in activities were Jim Young and Janet Furlong in the band and Janet winner in the county interpretative reading contest. Marianne, Joyce and Allan Binion played in the band Marianne was the accompanist for the chorus The student body awarded the class the prize for having sold the most tickets for the plays given in the fall. I? km? ag XA , HQNORS 1041533 0 alutatonan Lila Charles, salutatorian, whose grade average is 3 7h has the unique quality of emerging the winner in com petitive events In 1955 and 1956 she won firit place at the Forensic Meet in Aberdeen In 1955 she won first in speed in the Typing Contest at Grays Harbor Business College In 195k she won first place in the county with her Forest Service poster In 1955 she was chosen Girls' State Representative but was unable to attend because of illness Her sports activities include playing on our softball team for four years Valedictorian Edna Pickett, valedictorian, maintained a grade point aver- age of 309k and has carried five subjects each year. In addition to her regular school activities, Edna has played an important role in the musical program of our school both as a member of Girls' Chorus and soloist. She has been absent three days in four years. Pep at the football and basketball games was incented by the band. In the fall the band furnished music for the one-act plays program, The dedication of the new school build- ing was the occasion for another excellent performance. Both the grade school and the high school Christmas pro- grams were favored with their music. Spring activities of the group included a Music Festival in May and special music for the Senior Play and gradu- ation excercises. 0l'US Quinault can be proud of its first choruses in the history of the school, the boys and girls who make up the choruses, and the dir ector, Mr Stassinis Members of the Girls' Chorus were Lolia Charles, Lila Charles,Arlyne Fishel, and Edna Pickett, sopranos, Mary Sevey, Carrie Peabody, Judy Thompson, and Barbara Forbes, altos, and Roberta Davis, Louise Sevey, and Lois Fairchild, second sop- P81105 0 Members of the Boys' Quartet were: Eddie Dahl, Allan Binion, Harry Crevis- ton, and Jerry Campbell. 0 1041532 tudent Council The student council, being formed by the student body officers and the delegates of each class, governs the affairs of the student body by promoting interest in school activities and by increasing general school welfare. Mary Sevey represented the seniors, David James the juniors, Barbara Forbes the sophomores and Nancy Willett the freshmen tudent Body ffucers The student body officers direct the activities that affect every student in the school by keeping standards of the school high Leading the students was Clifford Amsbury as president Sonja Becker served as vice president The min utes were kept in order by Roberta Davis and Val Furlong had the job of keeping the treasury books out of the red. Z X 1,5 . ff, xxx, X, X I 1041532 Girl S' Club The Girls' Club, made up of all the girls in school, is a service group striving to attain the high ideals of honor, service and loyalty The club was under the leadership of Sonja Becker as president Serving in the office of vice president was Lois Fairchild, Lila Charles kept the minutes and Karen Anderson was in charge of balancing the books Blanche Wells was the sergeant at arms. Hrs Knute was the adviser. 'IL , - - 0 , - , . . w Q wxgv . 91 1532 104 C earbook taff The task of the staff of the Timberline has been to por tray with pictures and words the activlties of the school year It is a year's work for the staff who plan and who write it Pictures of people and events on each page sive a year of life of the students and faculty who make up the school Edna and Lila worked up to the coveted positions as edi tors in chief through strictly hard work They served on the staff during their freshmen, sophomore and junior years Their job has demanded much in time and talent Dale Fishel as manager took care of the business angle of things for the Timberline He handled the advertising contracts and the subscriptions His assistants were Lois Fairchild and Harry Creviston Chief responsibility for the production was Clifford Ams bury Blanche Wells assisted by Marlene Fuller arranged the advertisements Top position of mounting editors went to Donna Edgington and Virginia Gravatt They and their helpers typed and mounted all the pictures and copy of people and events that portray the activities of the year. Sports pages were compiled by Daryl Olson for the boys, Virginia Gravatt and Sharon Franklin for the girls. Class editors were: seniors, Arlyne Fishelgjuniors, Sonja Beckergsophomores, Louise Sevey and Barbara Forbesgfresh- men, Karen Rooney and Carrie Peabody. Arlyne Fishel took snapshots for the book. Barbara Brim and Marguerite Amsbury arranged the snapshot pages. A tie with North River for second place was decided by a playoff at Aberdeen in which the Elks were defeated and lest a district tournament berth Quinault hosted the Jamboree as the first game in our new gym The nNorth , composed of Moclips, Mary which score North 31 to M Knight, and Quinault beat the South , was Ocosta, Wishkah, and North River, by a of 96 to 79 Individually: Quinault d mped River and Wishkah with scores of 15 to 10 and 11, respectively fans saw two thrillers in the first and last league games. The Elks won a two-point victory over Ocosta and in the final home game North River went down in a one-point defeat. Several of the Elks' losses can be accredited to 'off' shooting. The team elected Daryl Olson as their honorary cap- tain and Eddie Dahl as the most improved player for the year.
