Riding High Several students at LPHS were recognized during the past year for their achievements. Da- vid Jibben (top left) received awards for his participating in the Jamestown Math contest and the Northern State College Math Contest. He was also rec- ognized as the Outstanding stu- dent in Physics and in Senior Math. David received the Citi- zenship award from the Ameri- can Legion and he was a recipi- ent of the Presidents Academic Fitness Award. And finally, Da- vid was recognized as the Class of 87’s Salutatoriam Julie Tolzin (top right) was the Class of 87’s Valedictorian. She was also awarded the Presi- dents Academic Fitness Award. Ronda Palmlund (middle left) was recognized as the Outstand- ing Band Member for the 1986- 87 school year. She was also se- lected as an All-State Band Member for the 3rd straight year. Ronda received the Presi- dents Academic Fitness Award and was presented with the Re- gents Scholar Diploma by the State of South Dakota. Shawn Hasche (middle right) served as a page in the South Da- kota Senate this year. Her spon- ser was Senator Henry Poppen. In addition to serving as a page, Shawn was an Honor Student and the President of the Student Council. Lynne Casper (bottom left) also served as a page this year, but in the South Dakota House of Representatives. She was sponsored by Representative Dean Anderson. Lynne was an Honor Student and was also the 86-87 Homecoming Queen. Sheri Jacobsen (bottom right) was chosen as the 86-87 Kings- bury County Snow Queen. Sheri was also an Honor Student. 6

The 1987 Math Team com- peted in Northern State Math Contest in April, and they came away carrying the 1st place tro- phy. This was the second straight year that Mr. Ritter’s math teams had won the “B” di- vision at NSC Math Contest. David Jibben did an out- standing job, finishing third in the senior division behind two students from “A” schools. Ron Smith finished sixth in the Alge- bra I division. Also placing in state competi- tion was the quartet of Dana Houser, Tracy Stewart, Tammy Sheidt and Stacy Stewart. These four girls won the 1600 meter relay at the State Track Meet with a record time of 4:06.96. Stacy Stewart placed 1st and 2nd in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. Tracy Stew- art place 4th and 5th in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. The four girls scored 34 points at the state meet which place them 4th overall.
