I TOR: NDA HASCHE SSISTANT EDITl PAM OSVOG m DEDICATION This year Lake Preston High School was very privileged to have in its attendance two very special foreign ex- change students, Etta Lozano and Ana Pontes. Etta lives in the Philippines. She made her home at the Dale Brekkes of Lake Preston for her time in the United States, which lasted 10 months. At LPHS she participated in band and was recognized for her talents on the keyboard instruments in the percussion section. Etta's outgoing personality enabled her to acquire many friends at LPHS. Many students became very close friends to Etta. She shared in all of our school's activities. Ana Lucia Priori de Pontes came from Recife, Brazil. When she arrived at LPHS she could speak no English except the phrase, I no speak English. Through the help, cooperation and patience from the students of our high school, especially seniors, she was able to learn and make conversation. Ana's father is an engineer in Brazil, and her mother a lawyer. She lived with the Hubert Kazmerzak family of Erwin for her 6 month stay in the United States. Her perseverance and endurance helped through hard times with language barriers, custom differences, and cultural changes. But the friendliness of LP students and the community always seemed to help the most. Both Etta and Ana were given special membership pins for participating in Future Homemakers of America. An honor they both were exceptionally pleased to receive and will cherish the 'trophy' forever. These two exchange students have grown with us here at Lake Preston as well as we have certainly gained in knowledge and friendship from them. 3 FACULTY 6 Mrs. Ann Muser Secretary Mr. Doug Nelson Counseler Mrs. Mildred Furney English III, IV Mr. Paul Nelson Government Mr. Gaylord Goehring Math Mrs. Ann Lundquist English I II Mr. Lane Karli Band s' : s' : s' : s' : s' : s'”: s' : 7 Mr. Ron Larsen Mrs. Marlys Jacobson Mr. Tim Holtquist Mrs. Linda Karban Mrs. Baine Anderson JANITORS: L. Now what was the count on? Cheese” 14 HAPPINESS IS. . BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS Five Senior girls completed their third and last year with the Diver Basketball squad in the fall of 1976. Tom Haggar and Lind Karban provid- ed the coaching skill for the varsity and junior varsity squads. Even though they were destined to finish second in tournament, conference and district play the Blue and Gold cagers compiled a successful 13-7 season. The close team spirit which developed between individual players made the losing easier and the winning more lasting. Besides the regular tea parties, individual birthday parties, flower night, parent night, team meetings, and role call the coaches and team had a basketball picnic on midcourt line to complete the season. Composed of seven sophomores and nine green freshmen the B squad worked hard all year under Coach Linda Karban. A hard schedule proved challanging for the younger Divers, but they never gave up and were always an inspiration to their team- mates on the A squad. Long and hard practices were often followed by short games and small locker rooms, but the Blue and Gold team found many opportunities for fun and learning during the 76 season. Composed mainly of upper classmen, including seven juniors and three seniors, the Blue and Gold matmen turned in rough showings against the strong competition of the LCC. Sioux Valley fell to the Divers for the first time ever and the LP grapplers also outscored Arlington in Regional play. Three seniors completed their last and best year with the Diver wrestling squad in 1977. Brian Lather, Brad Janssen, and Dan Menzel all provided leadership throughout their final season. L TO R: J. The Diver Basketball season can be described in one word, unpredictable. The Divers at times looked like the best team in the state, and at other times the exact opposite. The Divers were led by six seniors to have an experienced team, but in many games they yielded much height. The schedule saw the Divers play the top teams in the state and having countless road trips. All in all, it proved to be a very challenging year. After providing leadership in sports, journalism, music, dramatics, agriculture, student government and academics and 72nd graduating class of Lake Preston High School carried away countless memories from its almamater. One of the largest and closest classes to ever graduate from the halls of Lake Preston, the class of 1977 prided itself on involvement within the many different phases of activities in LPHS. Individual and group standouts emerged from every area in which the seniors participated. Between the hard work and long hours needed for perfect extra-curricular activities the seniors still made time to enjoy each other's company in their last year together as classmates. The American Government trip to Pierre, State B's, senior privileges and prom all afforded the opportunity for good times and long lasting memories to be made for the seniors. Completing high school is both a happy and a sad event, but the seniors of 1977 left their mark on LPHS and will carry always the friend- ships they made there. 75 76 • •f- • • r WE- LE LRN 78 i •• i k a •• k A WE} I grow k A •• k i NOW P 1USC TO IND Why do we keep living?r Spinning r.ouhd and rou d, . .
