Most Humorous - Junior Class LPHS Celebrates With Floats, Fire And Fun The suspense of homecoming week, September 13-17, came to a peak Thursday night with the crowning of Queen Ilene Baumberger and King Chuck Wolkow. As the student body flocked to the football field, the rust- ling and warmth of the burning D met the enthusiastic crowd. After many peppy speeches and yells the team was ready to face the challenge of the all-important game the next night against the DeSmet Bulldogs. Soon the students were hand in hand winding through the streets in an attempt to lose the end stragglers. The snake dance came to a halt on main street bringing this memorial night to a close. After a morning of rushing to put the finishing touches on the floats everyone gathered on main street for the parade at 1:30. The grade school children and floats carried out the theme of cars and insectisides. Evening brought the game with DeSmet; the final score 14 to 26. Following the grid-iron, the Nickel Bag of Soul provided the music for the dance. Thus the end came to the 1971-72 Homecoming. This was the year that was! Most Original - Music

Sadie Hawkins, Spirits Were High - and Higher As usual the FHA sponsored another girl ask boy dance at LHPS. Only this year it was a Sadie Hawkins Dance and the atmosphere consisted of a rollicking fun for all. Scarecrows, cows, sheep and hillbillies crowded the scene as the dance band, King Kong , got the music rolling. Kids were seen sprawled on the floor doing the alligator, twisting like mad during a twist contest and once in awhile shuffling from foot to foot during a slow dance. For the serious couples at the get-together, a Marryin' Sam booth was set up. Each couple received a set of pipe-cleaner wedding rings and a marriage license for suckers . Daisy Mae and Lil'Abner candidates were also elected from each class. Penny jugs were set on the office counter with the contes- tants names on them. The class with the most pennies won and was presented with the honor. This year the junior class won with Bruce Wolkow named Lil'Abner and Kathy Nelson named Daisy Mae. The man of the night received a pitch fork with a missing prong and the little lady was awarded a used washboard. The senior, sophomore and freshmen candidates were Pam Lundquist and Merrill Nelson, Ronda Stewart and Brian Shanks and Lori Hasche and Wayne Wienk respectively. This dance proved to be one of the most successful LPHS has seen.
