The 1968 Prestonian Lake Preston High School Lake Preston, South Dakota Presented by The Lake Preston Annual Staff Jean Gilbery - Senior Editor Donna Andersen - Junior Editor Printed by Midwest Beach, Inc. Dedication Ve, the annual staff of 1968, wish to dedicate this Prestonian to the memory of John William Stewart. John was a member of the junior class at the time of his death in April of 1968. John was a sincere friend and an active student and was always interested in student affairs. Ve feel that by taking John from our midst, God has instilled in us the courage to accept the things we cannot change. Though his death seems so pointless, it holds many lessons for each of us. Ve hope that this dedication will serve to remind each of us to establish high ideals in our daily life. As Mrs. Savage, Jean Kopperud portrayed a tiny blue haired old lady whom her step- children believed to be unstable. Acting as her step-children were Doug Cecil - a dis- tinguished, sly senator; Rhonda Sneesby - a sophisticated snob and Perry Anderson - a judge overwhelmed by his brother's and sister's authority and self-assurance. The guests at the Cloisters, a private institution, included Janice Jensen - a timid ele- gant sort of person, who lost her child and now clings to a doll and Mary Bergstrom - a young lady starved for love and beauty. Sandy Danielson, another guest, portrayed a plump, hostile looking woman who believed she could paint very well and who could be heard only when she burst forth with exclamations of all her dislikes. Curt Meier was disillusioned by thinking he could play the violin. Ryan Kopperud acted as a war vetran who was formerly a professional pianist. Following the war, he became very consciencious of a small scar on his cheek that could hardly be seen. Peggy Green, his wife, was a menber of the household staff and was awaiting her husband's recovery. Dean Martin played the part of their personal doctor. Awards Night Awards night was held May 14 in the high school auditorium. The first order of business was the traditional passing of classes. Honor students of the 1968 graduating class were an- nounced. Music, drama and athletic awards were presented. The annual dedication, the Dennis Anderson Memorial Award and the John Stewart Sportsman- ship Award recipients were recognized. Various community and other awards were also presented. The program concluded with the si-nging of the school song. ABOVE: Jean Gilbery and Donna Andersen, editors of the annual staff, announce the Preston- ian dedication. Kindergarten Mrs. Jibben met thirty newcomers to school ranging in age from five to six years. Sixteen of the thirty pupils came from town. The class was too large to have all come at once so the country students attended class in the afternoon and the town students attended class in the morning. Both classes were taught by Mrs. Jibben. The kindergarten students learned and did many things during their short school term which started January 15 and ended May 22. The kindergarteners completed a pic- ture book, We Need More Pictures, for reading and a nursery rhyme book. They did many visual-discrimination sheets. They all were active in the visual activities for a kindergarten class, such as cutting, coloring, working with rhyming words, and fin- ger plays. MORNING CLASS Left to right.
