At the close of each day, sixty-three female voices were raised in song. This group alternated rehearsal periods with the mixed chorus. The girls, under the direction of Mr. John Hester, received an excellent rating at the music contest in Brookings for their singing of Where'er You Walk and America the Beautiful . They also appeared at a PTA program, Christmas program, and the annual Spring Concert. All-State Band Rarer Johnshoy and Julianne Larsen were selected in state-wide auditions to play flute and French horn, respectively, in the 170-piece All-State Band under the direction of Lt. Col. W. The mixed chorus broke past attendance ecords with a total enrollment of ninety-six. The group presented ’’Hallelujah Chorus by Beethoven at the contest in Brookings on April 16 and received an excellent ratine. The chorus sang portions of Handel’s ’’essiah at the Christmas program, Battle Hymn of the Republic for graduation, and numbers for the alumni banquet and the Sprinm Concert. These vocalists represented Lake Pres- ton in the All-State Chorus held at Sioux Falls, November 5-6, 1965. Ratings received were I-superior, II-excellent, Ill-good. Both the French horn quartet and flute duet were recommended for the evening Grand Concert. The ensembles also provided music for community functions. The mixed octet, composed of All-State Chorus members and their alternates, did not uerform at contest but sang at the Christmas concert and graduation. The two piano soloists entered the piano contest held at the large groups music contest in Brookings, April 16. Soloists gained personal satisfaction from expressing themselves inmusic. Blue And Day Gold The 1965 homecoming activities began on the evening of Sep- tember 30 with the crowning of Carol Nielsen as queen and Danny Nelson as king. The attendants of the king and queen were as follows: seniors, Sandra Bode and Curtis Smith; juniors, Barbara Andersen and Roger Rauch; sophomores, Jan and Jon Nystrom; freshman, Donna Andersen and John Stewart. LaMae Rodvold and Steven Warren were the crownbearers. A pep rally, a snake dance, a bonfire at the football field, and a show completed the evening festivities. On Friday afternoon the parade was led by the American Legion Color Guard and followed by the LPHS band as well as visiting bands and numerous floats. Of these floats, the winners were as follows: the freshman float, most humorous; the music float, most beautiful; and the FFA float, most original. The climax of homecoming took place Friday evening with the football game against De Smet. We were defeated by a score of 20-0. After the game, a school dance was held in the auditorium.
