Consider- able emphasis is given to farm mechan- ics . This involves the development of the mechanical ability of students in performing 1 arm-shop activities in operating, main-tain i ng, repairing, and adjusting farm machinery. Business courses are formulated to develop the pupils’ minds for either a business vocation directly followinq high school or to prepare students for a colleqe proqram. Social science is a relatively new body of knowledge which studies human society. The main objectives cf social science are to picture man m a political, economical, social, cultural, and historical setting. Sach discipline has its own objective. But, in general, social science will benefit the high school stu d ent by teaching him social attitudes, values, and ideas. Playing, hearing, singing, and understanding good music lead imag- inations above and away from the dan- gers of leisure time. “A town with the maximum of music has the minimum of crime. Music gives the student health, prepares him for a vocation, worthy home membership, civic education, and ethical character. 8 High school hcmemaking courses are designed to prepare boys and girls to live successful, adjusted lives in today's society. Any skills taught are a means to an end. Our goal is to make all students better homemakers and family members. The skillful use of language is a valuable asset to any individual. Therefore, the general pur pose of English is to teach the student bet- ter means of oral and written commun- ication . All mathematic courses provide a background for advanced fields of math and science. They also help to develop logical thinking processes through reasoning and proof. The algebra, advanced algebra, and geom- etry courses offered can be applied to problems in fields such as engin- eering and physics. L KE PRESTON TEACHERS ASSOCIATION Sack Row: L. to R. to.
