Our Junior year started with the same number as the previous year. Robert Brown, LeRoy John- son, and Myron Torgerson left us and Karen Kor- kow joined. The Junior attendants for Homecom- ing were Ellen Kjellsen and Rodney Casper. Our highlights were the Junior Play. Aunt Cathie's Cat , under the direction of Mrs. Jack Maxwell; receiving our class rings and our Prom. Jean Larson and Daryl Pederson were chosen as Girls and Boys Staters. Twenty-seven seniors returned to these familiar halls. Later on, two more joined us--Jozine and Annelise Kryger. Our Homecoming Queen and Marshall were Sherrill Stymiest and Brian Crane. Because of Brian's absence, Chris Holm received the crown. Our attendants were Carol Spilde and and Daryl Pederson. The brightest spots were Government Days, Skip Day, th-om, Sr. Play and, of course, Graduation. Lila Anderson was chosen D.A.R. Representative. 1. HI-HO SILVER! 2. TASTE GOOD? 3. WHOOPS! 4. A government cannot rise higher than its source. In a democracy that source is the people them- selves. The future of democracy rests with the people. To the degree that people take an interest in government, make a study of it, and work at it, democracy will be perfected. To promote knowledge of and interest in American government is the purpose of the American Government class. The American History class is composed of Juniors in high school. In this subject we start with the colonizing of the New World and follow through the history of the United States up to the present administration, with emphasis on past mistakes. 24 Science afui Ij latkematicA Not pictured of the Math classes is the Freshman Algebra class, where the Fresh- men meet up with X in its Algebraic use. It is especially interesting to calculate our net profit (or loss) for the fiscal period and to decide which items are debits and which are credits. Notice the concentration] Keeping budgets, writing checks and filling out income tax forms are some of the ac- tivities which keep us busy during the school year in the General Business Class. Term papers and bulletin boards add variety. Never a dull moment! English 4 Grammar kept us busy the first semester and English literature in groups of two can often change from study groups to conver- sation groups. Pep assemblies are among these affairs. This also holds true at athletic contests including football and basketball games where the band raises the spirits of the crowd. Only the faculty knew, but the secret was revealed Thursday evening, October 10, as Shari Stymiest was crowned queen of the 1957-58 Homecoming. Brian Crane was voted marshal but Chris Holm was crowned by proxy because of Brian's absence. Marshal Chris crowns Queen Shari. The Royal Recessional The declam float On the eve of Homecoming the cheer- leaders and the band led the students in a pep fest around the bonfire on the ball field. Afterwards, the snake dance worked its way into the business area. The participants were treated to a free late show. The parade had a large variety of floats, from which the Seniors placed first in origi- nality. The most beautiful float was the Music float, and the Declam float received first in the humorous division. Lake Preston lost their Homecoming game to Estelline. 33 Row 3: L to R, J. Wienk, C.
