Front row: Carol Sapp, Carol Lee, Barbara Goodhope, Dick Pastlan, LeRoy Koch. I CLASS HISTORY Thirty-three green freshmen found tneir way to the assembly of L.P.H.S. on September 11, 1950. The first highlight of the year was initiation on September 15. The girls wore gunny sack shorts, a man's shirt and tie on backwards, ragcurls in our hair, no makeup, long cotton stockings, one workshoe and one four-burkir. overshoe, a necklace of onions, and carried a broom. The boys were attired in their mother'3 nightgowns, one high- heeled shoe and one five-buckle overshoe, plenty of makeup, three curlers in their hair with a stocking nightcap, and carried e doll. Mr. Lehr was our class advisor and Mrs. Myron Goodhope was our class mother. Barbara Goodhope and Robert Jensen were our carnival candidates. Our Homecoming Queen candidate was Charlotte Johnson. The Queen of Hearts , our Homecoming float, won third prize. We had a class party in the high school gymnasium and home economics room. Charles and Richard Wright joined our class near the end of the first semester. Those leav- ing our class during our freshman year were Jeane Anderson, Armead Olson, Doyle Sass, Charles Wright, and Richard Wright, Our sophomore year began with thirty classmates returning. Mr. Galer was chosen as our advisor and Mrs. Clarence Lee as our class mother. Candidates for the carnival were Beverly Olson and Howard Barlow. Irene Rylsnd was our Homecoming Queen candidate. Highlight of the year was a roller skating party held at Lake Campbell. At the beginning of our junior year, thirty pupils returned to the halls of Lake Preston High School. Thomas Vandervelde had moved away during the summer. Lloyd Stavick joined our class from Sisseton, So.Dak. Our class mother was Mrs. Harry Larsen and our advisor, Miss Schlobohm. Carnival candidates were Shirley Lewison and Richard Pastian. Our Home- coming Queen was Iylla Falla. Highlights of the year were our play, Let Me Out of Here , and the junior-senior banquet and prom on May k with the theme, Oriental Gardens . Carol Johnson, Charlotte Johnson, Beverlv Olson, and Esther Miller left us during the year. Grace Cother went to Girls State and Howard Barlow went to Boys State. We received our class rings shortly after Thanksgiving. After a thorough filtering and sifting of three years, twenty-three seniors returned for the final year. Shirley Lewisort and Iylla Falla did not return. Bruce Blakewell came and left during the year. Others leaving during the year were Irene Ryland and Jimmie Blinsmon. We chose Mr. Melemseter as our class advisor and Mrs. Carl McNamara as our class mother. Our Homecoming Queen was Barbara Goodhope and Marshall was Robert Jensen. High lights of the year were our Senior Pheasant Feed, Shakespearean play, senior play, skip day, and American Legion Student Government day in DeSmet. Other highlights of interest are that the present senior class has had: the Homecoming Queen two out of four years namely Iylla Falla and Barbara Goodhope; the Student Body President all four times namely Roger Gerald, Richard Pastian, Howard Barlow, and Barbara Goodhope; the Student Body Vice-president all four times namely George Kjellsen, Robert Brook- shire, Warren Casper, and Richard Pastian; the Student Body Secretary all four times namely Charlotte Johnson, Robert Brookshire, Carol Lee, and Warren Casper; and also the Student Body Treasurer two out of four times namely Roger Gerald and Judith McNamara. They played regularly scheduled games with other East Central Conference teams every Wednesday afternoon. The East Central Conference Tournament was held in Lake Preston on March 1$, 16, and 17. DeSnet won championship honors in the final game with Volga. Lake Preston earned fourth place in the tournament by losing their final game with Iroquois. Brookshire J Russett L. The Monogram Club con- sists of boys who have earned letters In foot- ball, basketball or track. They sell pop at all of the basket- ball games and use the money for buying some worthwhile project to be used by them. This year the money was used to buy a washing machine and dryer for washing athletic equipment. Twenty-two hopefuls including six lettermen turned out for the initial basketball practice with Coach William Tidmarsh. The Divers got off to a good start with some impressive victories but hit a mid-season slump which slowed them up. However, they snapped out of it to climb Co fourth place in the Jiast Central Conference standing and put on some good performances. HOMECOMING ROYALTY The Homecoming festivities began on Thursday evening, October 15, with a pep fest and coronation at the high school gymnasium. Barbara Goodhope was crowned Homecoming Queen by Iylla Mae Jensen, Homecoming Queen of 19f 2. Bob Jensen was crowned Homecoming Marshall by Howard Barlow, Student Body Presi- dent. Attendents for the Queen were Shirley Jibben, Sharon Casper, and Lor- etta Jibben. Following the coronation ceremonies, students held a pep fe3t around a huge bonfire prepared by the freshmen class in the city park. A snake dance through the business district and a theater party climaxed the evening. A parade was presented by Lake Preston Schools and the Commercial Club to open Homecoming Day on Friday morning, October 16. Clear Lake was our overpowering football opponent in the afternoon. Approximately two hundred alumni, students, and friends attended the annual Homecoming banquet in the high school gymnasium served by members of the local Parent-Teacher-Association. Jewel Larsen and Lois Williams received excellent ratings. The Girls Athletic Association meets every Tuesday and Friday. At the beginning of he period.some time is spent in calisthenics.
