We, the Seniors of Lake Preston High School have put our hopes, our ambitions, our memories and all our efforts into the production of this, the 1952 Prestonian. We have produced this annual In hopes that it will orlng back the memories of the 1952 school year and to bring our high school activities closer to.the people who read this annual. We hope that we have vivid- ly displayed the daily doings of the stu- dents of the Lake Preston High School. Jn n emoriam mr Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet snail he live. John 11:25 There is a vacancy in our class circle now. We miss you, LeRoy. we always will. But your life end death was a ministry for God, a quiet, loving, but firm ministry. Through your life we learned the real value of courage, dependability, loyalty, co-operation and patriotism. We found in you a ready friend in your own quiet way. Your smile always helped us on through life. May we listen attentively to your ministry so that your death need not be in vain. He is not dead, he is just a- way. The 1951-52 edition of the Divers ended a highly success- ful season as they received consolation honors at the Region 3 tournament. When Coach Bill Tidmarsh, pilot of the Divers for the second year, issued his first call for practice he found that there were twenty out including four lettermen. The Divers went on to one of the most successful seasons in recent years as they chalked up a record of 23-5. They were champions of the East-Central Conference and received runnerup honors at the conference tourney. They went on to win the District 11 tournament held at Brookings. The Diver reserve squad was called on frequently and helped greatly to make it such a successful season. The B team was coached by John Lehr, assistant coach. Good sportsmanship and hearty supoort by the student body and the local fans encouraged the team on to victory. No sm- all part of the congratulations should fro to Coach Bill Tid- marsh. 85 Preston- 52 Preston- U3 Preston- 1;3 Preston- 53 Preston- m Preston- t 9 Preston- 57 Preston- White 71 Preston- Garden City 75 Preston- Bancroft 62 Preston- 61 Preston- Wessington U2 Preston- Hayti 75 Preston- Oldham 5U Preston- 68 Preston- Arlington 55 Preston- 6? Teacher: Mrs. Cashman 44 When roll-call was taken, there was found to be 23 freshmen enrolled in L.P.H.S. in the year 19iiS-i 9. We soon got over our bashfulness and became one of the students. Robert Stewart was chosen our class advisor and Mrs. Laverna Williams our class mother. What was suppose to be the highlight of our freshmen year was the initiation by our so-called superior seniors . The girls were dr- essed in men's underwear with bathing suits over the top, bathing cap, men's work shoes or boots, and carried a shovel and a milk pail. Our hair was fixed in braids with green ribbons tied in it. Tne ooys wore pedal pushers with green ruffles sewed on the bottom, midriff blouses, a women's high-heel- ed shoe and a slipper, women's hats and carried a broom. Also they had bells tied around their ankles. Both boys and girls had an onion tied around their neck. Other actual highlights of the year were: Homecoming with Shirley Jen- sen as our candidate; Our carnival king and queen candidates were Ardell Holland and Don Williams; an ice-skating party at Williams and the picnic at the end of the school year held at Campbell. Marilyn McArthur and Peggy Spencer came and left during the year. 25 eager and ambitious sophomores started to school the following year with Harold Melemseter as our class advisor and Mrs. John G. Nelson as our class mother. Gloria Jungeman and Berkley Hougland left us and Shirley Pas- tian joined us from Witten. In addition Janice McNamara, Darlene Russett, Jean Rottum, and Lloyd Kjellsen came over from Hetland. Later in the year Barbara Olson joined us from Willow Lake. Our Homecoming candidate that year was Jean Kottum. Janice McNamara and Bob Williams were our Carnival candi- dates. Highlights that year were: a class hayride with lunch at Lake Henry; roller skating party at Huron; board ride at Nelson's; and the picnic at Kam- peska. Our class won first on their float in the Homecoming parade. The theme was Queen of Autumn . We also had the honors of winning championship of the class tournaments in basketball. Jean Rottum was chosen cheerleader. At the beginning of our Junior year, there were 23 pupils enrolled. We chose Mrs. Allen Casper as our class mother and Miss Schlobohm as our advis- or. Robert Johnson and Darlene Olson did not return and Deloris Nesheim left us during the year. Barbara Olson was our Homecoming candidate and Deloris Nesheim and Lloyd Kjellsen were our carnival candidates. One highlight of the year was when we juniors presented our class play One In A Million . Among the other highlights were: Banquet and Prom with the Gay 90's as our theme; picnic at Kampeska. Janice McNamara was toastmlstress at our banquet, Bernard Malone was chosen outstanding athlete of the year. LeRoy Casper at- tended Boys' State and Wilma Kalvig went to Girls' State. Jean Rottum was again chosen as one of the cheerleaders. We received our class rings short- ly after Christmas and we were a group of well-pleased juniors. Vic Fondy and his Collegiates played for our Prom. We again won the class basketball- tournament. As the bell rang to begin the school year of 1951-52., there were 22 re- freshed looking seniors in the halls. As class mother we chose Mrs. T. L. Eidsness and- Harold Melemseter was chosen advisor. Don Williams did not re- turn to school this year. Duping the year Carl Paulsen joined us from Day- ton, Ohio. Because of a fatal farm accident we lost one of our students of the senior class, LeRoy Casper. Our class was fortunate enough to win hon- ors for the Homecoming royalty. Our queen and football marshall were Janice McNamara and LeRoy Casper. Our float Hunters Paradise came in for second place which also put a glow in our class. Our carnival king and queen candi- dates were Jean Rottum and Herbie Nelson. Janice McNamara was elected D.A.R. candidate from our class. This year we had two cheerleaders in the group, Jean Rottum and Janice McNamara. Highlights of the year were: Senior Chick- en Feed and show afterwards in Brookings; Annual; Class Play; Skip Day; Coll- ege Day at Brookings.
