J zclication e the Seniors of 1951 of Lake Preston High School dedi- cate this Prestonian to the business men of Lake Preston. We do this in appreciation of their continued cooperation with each year's publication of the yearbook. The theme of this 1951 Prestonian is Watermelon Day. It is a day set aside in Lake Preston each year as a day of festivities and eating all the watermelon you can hold. This tradition originated from an ox roast held on Labor Day, 1912. This was not very successful so it was changed to Watermelon Day. There is always a melon feed at noon, and ball games, races, a carnival, and many other activities throughout the day. Attendance at the first Watermelon Day was small, but it gradually Increased until now it is known throughout this state and into many others. The construction of the swimming pool made Lake Preston even more widely known so that many people plan their vacations for Lake Preston. We hope Watermelon Day continues to be as big a suc- cess as it has been in former years, and we hope everyone enjoys the Watermelon theme that is carried on throughout our annual. The 1951 Prestonian is puollshed Dy the Senior Class of Lake Preston High School.
