J , . . . , , When we entered fourth grade we were very pleased to find that Mrs. Brahand was going up the steps with us to our fourthgrade room. Harlen Mertens only stayed with us for a short time and left during our fourth grade year. Mrs. Braband took us to Spirit Lake on the tra1n to visit the ego plant and coke plant where we were given a bottle of coke and 3 Hot doo Because of a blessed event, Mrs Brahand left and Mrs Briggs finished the tern The next year we started on the fifth rung of the ladder with Miss Hansen as our teacher We added to our 11st Juanita Goyette, Myrna Karnis, and Hobert Salisbury Karen Middleton left us to oo to the interesting country of Japan Gary Tgoland also left us Uuring this year M15 Hansen got married and it was sort of awkward at first to call her Mrs Rush An interesting visitor that year was a small mouse who wanted to better his learning one day by playing 1D the bookcase The followlno September as we entered the sixth grade we found Miss Peterson as our teacher The Halloween addition to our class this year was Ellen Thaden Our class that y ar became the I1t+le Indians and we published the newspaper the 'Tribal Newsu nThe no of Heartsn, Pocahontas , and nTextbooks Speak Up' were our great dramatic endeavor that year AS we entered theswlngingdogrs of Junlor High, we felt quite important because now we had a number of teachers instead of Just one We felt our first lashes of the upper classmen when we were officially lnltlated We thought we were quite grown up that year, in fact, we were old enough to exchange rings Sharlene Overmire came and left us in the same year We were happy to welcome Mr and Mrs Forbes as our new superintendent and music teacher We advanced a few steps to the section nearest the window to become the confident eighth graders Now we look out the window to see the new addition to our school which will show improvement and excitement in our extra curricular activities The boys were happy to see John Jensen come to help even up their side of the arguments Skatlng part12S were our favorite pastime this year along with going steady The climax of our first nine years of school was eighth grade graduation followed by a dance in the old gym In the year l9Sh, 21 Freshmen stepped on the ninth rung of the ladder, to greet MrS Nighswonger as our class sponsor From 21 students we subtracted Arnold Joens, Barry MC Dowell, and John Jensen We added from the country school Betty Browning, Bob Browning, and Chaflgs Crosby We have memories, but not very tender ones, of the freshmen 1n1t1 ation Especially those moments when we had to wear shorts and m1df1ffS ID chilly September An exciting event in this year was when Mr Nagel took the science class to Rochester to tour the Mavo Clinic Our green color wasn't permanent for it seemed to fade when we became d1gn1f1 d sophomores This year would have been dull if Darrell Sathren had not come to Join our ranks Hobert got tierd of our long winters and decided to move to California The most exciting event of the sophomore cl ss was our trip to Minneapolis in a school bus Cinerana was the main event of the day and we were a tired bunch of sightseers when we arrived hone lext fall found us a Juniors with our places closer to the windows We Clalned three new students Shirley Bair, Chuck Fuller, and Leland Van Houten We felt ITIOTQ llte Juniors than ever, when our class rings arrived This year we found our spare time taken UP Wlth extra activities such as presenting our play, It's a Great Life , and running the CODCGSQI Stand at ballgames As the end of the year approached we became involved in our plans for the Junior Senior Banquet and Prom Our decorations represented an underwater theme called Romance Uncer the ea The decorat1ng was loads of fun and took lots of time and wor out oh the cleaning up' ' At the end of this year we lost two valuable members of our class Ellen Thaden and Jerry Randell Jerry had been with us ever since kindergarten and we were sorry to see him leave Seeing the girls play in the State Tournaments was an event in our school history we will never forget Those that couldn't ride in luxury down to Des Moines had a bumpy but en Joyable ride on the bus Our homecoming was the climax of the trip with a big steak supper for the basketball girls At last we have reached the twelfth and last rung of the ladder of the Lake Park school This is one of the outstanding events of our life We added to our roll, Bob Bush who was a great asset to our football team This year was one of the finestseasons that our team has had in years Their record was 8 wins with no loses Their 0'DP0nent5 CCOTW' 0113-Y 6 Points This year was spent earning money for our class trip to Chicago The last of our school events was the banquet cifen in our honor by the Juniors The C11m3Y Of Our SCh0Ol llfe were the class night, baccalaureate, and commencement BXCCFSISGS Now that we have completed our twelve years Journey up the ladder, we feel that we have amply prepared ourselves to continue our 1ourney up the Road of Toil which Leads to the City of success We leave our seats and memories to the class of 1959 x g S . The entrance was decorated as a beach with nLove Letters in the Sandn, and a wierd looking tree. As one descended the steps to enter the gym, there were signs warning that the altitude above sea level was dropping. Upon entering the ocean floor the guests were greeted by two mermaids sunning themselves on the rocks. At the left of the entrance was a dark and mysterious cove where Oscar the Octopus lurked. Other interesting features of the gym were: A large underwater castle where punch was served, a sunken boat, a huge pink shell on the far wall in front of which the band played, a large oyster with a pearl, and a large aquarium window made of fish net where the spectators could watch. There were four scenes, two on the north wall and two on the south. One scene de- picted a deep sea diver and a mermaid shining a light into a real treasure chest filled with coins and jewels. The other scenes included a huge coral reef with various sea animals swimming through, and two sea nymphs riding sea horses. The ceiling was of shades of blue and aqua crepe paper, to resemble waves. From the ceiling were suspended at different lengths fish of every shape, size, kind and color They appeared to be swimming beneath the surface of the ocean. Aqua ballons were also hung from the ceiling to resemble bubbles Th d ' I l . e walls were hung with aqua crepe paper an warg decorated with either fish net, moss or various kinds of sea life. i O WY Engel? 31135 KIUQ Neptune, entertained as master of ceremonies by intoduc- U9 some Very dellghtful entertainment.
